In honor of the official opening of the North American tour, producers have released production photos of BEETLEJUICE, the Broadway musical comedy based on Tim Burton’s film.

The St. Louis Theatre Circle has announced their nominations for their annual awards to be distributed on March 23, 2026, at the Loretto-Hilton Center. 172 theatre artists have been nominated in 34 categories honoring the best in St. Louis Theater in 2025. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis leads all companies with a record-breaking 38 nominations for their productions of Athena, Clyde’s, Emma, Ken Ludwig’s Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Brothers Size, and The Cottage. Emma is the most nominated comedy of the season with 11 nominations.

Michael Cassel Group, Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures and Langley Park Productions announced that the eight-time Tony Award-nominated hit musical Beetlejuice The Musical will play in Perth in 2026.

St. Louis Shakespeare Festival has announced its 2026 season including Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Tempest, the return of Romeo & Zooliet, and Two Gentlemen of Verona.

Broadway Sacramento is starting off the new year with a legend. The Lion King, winner of six Tony Awards, is back in town after seventeen years. The familiar score by Elton John and Tim Rice has been a favorite since the animated version debuted in 1994. Songs like “Hakuna Matata,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” and “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” have helped to catapult The Lion King to the status of highest-grossing Broadway production of all time. This was my first time experiencing the magic, and you shouldn’t wait as many years as I have.

The North American tour of Disney’s The Lion King will welcome Zama Magudulela as Rafiki. Magudulela will begin performances on Tuesday, January 13 in Sacramento at the Safe Credit Union Performing Arts Center.

Beetlejuice the Musical will end its limited 13-week Broadway return engagement at The Palace Theatre on January 3, 2026, at 8pm with a special audience curtain call sing-along finale.

This past season was the year of the comedy in St. Louis Theater. Companies across the city had audiences laughing all season long with slapstick, farce, and satire. There were some wonderful musical productions that really sang, a few hard hitting dramas, but comedies reigned in both quantity and quality. Instead of publishing a Top 10 list this year, I’m going to recognize the Best in St. Louis Theater for 2025. “The Best” is still a shortened list of just 13 shows out of the nearly 90 shows I saw this past year. It took weeks of thought and painstaking consideration to decide which productions would be included in my annual list. Here they are. The productions are listed in alphabetical order, not ranked by favorites:

As the houselights dim at the Metropolitan Opera, the Julie Taymor–directed The Magic Flute transports viewers into a buoyant and kaleidoscopic fairy-tale dreamworld. This abridged, English-language production is a visually sumptuous version of Mozart's singspiel bathed in bold primary colors, shaped by ingenious Masonic-inspired geometric staging, and animated by exquisite puppetry.  

BEETLEJUICE THE MUSICAL will partner with Brisbane bakery Nodo to debut a one-day-only donut inspired by the production’s signature netherworld aesthetic. The production will begin performances at QPAC next year with tickets already on sale.

Stage adaptations of movies are always tricky, but there’s a certain level of prestige that comes with adapting and pulling off one of the most loved and highly regarded movie adaptations of all time. The Lion King holds a deep residency in so many hearts, having loved the movie from a very early age, many people associate specific memories and people with the classic tale.

Broadway Grand Rapids and Disney Theatrical Group will place tickets on sale for THE LION KING’s return to DeVos Performance Hall beginning November 24 at noon.
