In association with British Airways, £15 tickets will be offered throughout the season as part of the company's commitment to making theatre more accessible. Well, it's that time of the year again--time for a look-back on what was worth making note of during the calendar year that's about to come to an end. It's from a totally personal, subjective point of view, of course, but frankly that's the way opera-lovers always seem to like it, n'est-ce pas? The productions worth noting come from places big, small and in-between, from composers old as the hills to freshly minted or somewhere in between (likewise the performers), from traditional or boldly modern to simply stand up and sing.

What a bizarre year 2018 has been. In the months that saw too much Trump, devastating Californian wildfires, an escalation in the refugee crisis, not to mention the dreaded 'B' word, it makes me more grateful than ever for the pure escapism that live theatre so often provides.

Heresy Records has announced the release of Testamenta new album by theater composer Mel Mercier, the son of Peadar Mercier, (one of the founders of The Chieftans) who was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Sound Design of a Play, and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Sound Design.Testament is an album of eleven music compositions by Mel Mercier (born. 23. December, 1959), and holds the titles of Composer/Percussionist/Professor, and Chair of Performing Arts at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick.
