On Friday, February 28, 2020 at 8:00pm, the Philharmonic Society of Orange County and the Irvine Barclay Theatre present multiple Grammy Award-nominated violinist Philippe Quint in the west coast premiere of Charlie Chaplin's Smile: A Musical Tribute to Charlie Chaplin, a new multimedia recital with pianist John Novacek featuring new arrangements of works and video clips from Chaplin's most celebrated films - Modern Times, City Lights, Monsieur Verdoux, The Kid, Limelight and A King in New York - interspersed with works by composers that had a great impact on Chaplin's compositional style: Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Brahms, Gershwin, and Stravinsky. During the performance, Quint will also narrate the stories that he has written and based on Chaplin's My Autobiography. There will be a 7:00pm panel with Quint, film archivist Stan Taffle, and Newport Beach Film Festival CEO Gregg Schwenk before the performance.

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) announced today the winners of the 32nd annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers Concert of Arias, which took place in the Cullen Theater of the Wortham Theater Center. This is the fourth year the Concert of Arias was streamed live on Facebook, and the third for livestreaming on YouTube. The livestream was hosted by HGO Studio alumna Jamie Barton. She is currently performing the title role in La favorite and placed third in the 2007 Concert of Arias. The winners were announced during the second portion of the program.
In celebration of Beethoven's 250th anniversary, Chamber Music San Francisco presents world-acclaimed cellist Alisa Weilerstein, along with Israeli pianist Inon Barnatan, performing all five of Beethoven's imaginative Cello Sonatas. New Amsterdam Singers (NAS), led by Music Director Clara Longstreth, will present Through the Seasons, featuring Robert Paterson's 'I Go Among Trees' - a World Premiere commissioned by NAS in honor of its 50th anniversary. The three-movement work by the New York-based award-winning composer is written for chorus and marimba on texts by Wendell Berry, May Sarton, and John Freeman; Makoto Nakura is the marimba soloist. The Auditorium Theatre's signature production Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah celebrates 15 years in Chicago, and is one of the first performances to kick off the Year of Chicago Music, on January 18 and 19, 2020, in addition to a special Student Matinee performance on January 17. The jazz-gospel twist on George Frideric Handel's classic Messiah oratorio premiered at the Auditorium in 2006, and has been inspiring and uplifting audiences ever since.
