by BroadwayWorld TV - Apr 8, 2020

Today we rewind to 2008 for the two-month Broadway run of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, starring Laura Linney, Ben Daniels, Kristine Nielsen, Mamie Gummer and Benjamin Walker. Adapted from the 1782 novel of the same title by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, the play focuses on the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont, rivals who use sex as a weapon of humiliation and degradation, all the while enjoying their cruel games. Their targets are the virtuous (and married) Madame de Tourvel and Cécile de Volanges, a young girl who has fallen in love with her music tutor, the Chevalier Danceny. In order to gain their trust, Merteuil and Valmont pretend to help the secret lovers so they can use them later in their own treacherous schemes.

The Little Foxes - L.A. Theatre Works opens its 2018-19 season at UCLA's James Bridges Theater with Lillian Hellman's modern classic about a wealthy Southern family and the greed that tears them apart. Mamie Gummer (HBO's True Detective, CW's Emily Owens, M.D) stars as Regina Giddens, whose dying husband (Jared Harris, of The Crown and Mad Men) is determined to leave her nothing, while her brothers Ben (Tim DeKay of HBO's Here and Now, ABC's American Crime, USA's White Collar) and Oscar (Jamie Harris of Turn: Washington's Spies on AMC, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) have inherited all their father's wealth. Amanda Peet may be best known as an actress, having appeared in films such as 'The Whole Nine Yards' and 'Syriana' and in TV shows, including the Duplass brothers' family dramedy, 'Togetherness.' But she's also a serious writer, with her second play, OUR VERY OWN CARLIN McCULLOUGH, now making its world premiere at the Geffen Playhouse. Peet says that for the Geffen production, with a cast that includes Mamie Gummer, Abigail Dylan Harrison, Caroline Heffernan, Tyee Tilghman and Joe Tippett, she was most interested in examining the mother-daughter relationship and 'the idea of how to parent and to what degree you can keep your narcissism in check.'
