43rd Annual BRIC CELEBRATE BROOKLYN! Festival Returns

The 2021 season of the free festival will kick off at 7:30pm on Saturday, July 31st (doors open at 6:00pm) with R&B singer/songwriter Ari Lennox as the headliner, Brooklyn-based rapper and poet KAMAUU and Jamaican-bred R&B artist Nesta as openers.

four/four has announced the updated lineup for its TETHERED X screening event on Wednesday, November 18. four/four is a presenting entity emerging from the Covid-19 pandemic to provide opportunities for dancers and musicians to collaborate and create work virtually while they are unable to perform live and tour.

Side Door Announces The 'Side Door to SXSW' Tour

 Side Door today announces the Side Door to SXSW tour – 8 showcasing artists touring down to Austin, TX for this year's SXSW conference (all dates below). Partner, GRLwood, Mir Fontane, Madison McFerrin, WHOOP-Szo, KAINA, Sen Morimoto and Hayfitz will head out on the road starting March 9, on curated tours booked using the Side Door platform.

Side Door Announces Partnership With SXSW

 Side Door - the online platform that matches artists with spaces to create shows anytime, anywhere - today announces a new partnership with SXSW called Side Door to SXSW, which will book curated tours for 8 select SXSW showcasing artists on the road to Austin, TX for this year's conference.  Each touring experience will be documented along the road, culminating with an official Side Door to SXSW showcase (dates and details to be announced in the coming weeks).  Hosts are encouraged to sign up as dates are still available in New York, Maryland, Ohio, Indiana, Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, or Texas.  If you have space to host an event in, create a host profile here.

Leading Brooklyn Arts Institution 651 Arts Announces New Executive Director

651 ARTS, Brooklyn's premier organization for the African Diasporic arts, today announced the appointment of seasoned nonprofit arts leader David J. Roberts as the renowned institution's new Executive Director. The selection of Roberts follows an extensive nationwide search led by cultural consulting firm CJAM Consulting, LLC and 651's Board of Directors. Roberts, who succeeds former Executive Director Shay Wafer, will report to the Board of Directors and will officially assume the role in August, 2019. 

Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage Announces Opening Night Date

Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage opening night is set to take place on Saturday, June 1st at the newly upgraded flagship venue in Central Park. The night will feature New York City native, the soulful R&B singer songwriter Emily King, along with developing artists and deep soul revival band Durand Jones & the Indications, Brooklyn-based singer songwriter Madison McFerrin, and DJ Reborn. The first guests of the night will receive a special limited-edition commemorative giveaways.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater and producer Brian A. Moreland have partnered on a two-week intensive workshop of playwright Keenan Scott II's Thoughts of a Colored Man. Directed by Taye Diggs, with choreographer Jenny Parsinen, associate director Shannon Stoeke, and music and vocals by Madison McFerrin, the piece takes a raw and honest look at the limitations, stereotypes and obstacles that the world attempts to place on men of color through their discussions of love, race, education, family, and history.
