BWW Review: BRIGADOON at Candlelight Music Theatre
by Greer Firestone - Sep 26, 2018

I'm a bit surprised that the News Journal did not report a run on Scottish plaid leading up to Candlelight's opening of BRIGADOON. The tartans from the various clans made for a colorful array by Costumer Tara Bowers and surely enriched the production.

Immediately following the Sunday, August 19th performance of Heisenberg/Actually, written by Simon Stephens and Anna Ziegler, respectively, Theatre Three will welcome speakers from local advocacy groups to speak to the timely issues that arise onstage in Actually. The evening will cover several triggering topics, including Title IX (the law that states a school becomes legally responsible when their response to harassment 'is clearly unreasonable in light of the known circumstances.'), sexual assault, and the urgent understanding of consent. This one-time-only opportunity will follow the 2:30 performance.

BWW Review: BOEING BOEING at Candlelight Music Theatre
by Greer Firestone - May 21, 2018

In this #METOO world of Harvey Weinstein, Matt Lauer and Donald Trump, one might look a bit circumspect at the staging of a 'bedroom' farce. As explained in the program notes, flight attendants in the '60's has to be single, between the ages of 21 and 27 and have a 'neatly proportioned figure' and 'pleasing appearance'. They were glamour girls and starlets of the skies.

BWW Review: THE DROWSY CHAPERONE at Candlelight Music Theatre
by Greer Firestone - Mar 26, 2018

Lerner and Loewe created MY FAIR LADY from Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion". Rodgers and Hammerstein adapted the 1909 Ferenc Molnar play "Liliom" and transplanted the setting from Budapest to the coast of Maine in CAROUSEL. That's generally how musicals are birthed. Not so with THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, which makes its nascency the more intriguing and Broadway fanciful.

BWW Review: DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS at Candlelight Music Theatre
by Greer Firestone - Jan 29, 2018

Final bows. Standing O from a boomer ++ crowd on a Sunday matinee opening weekend. I thought to myself how privileged I am to be able to attend and write about DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS (DRS) and the hundreds of shows prior over 30 + years.

BWW Review: FUNNY GIRL at Candlelight Music Theatre
by Greer Firestone - Sep 22, 2017

FUNNY GIRL established Barbra Streisand's career and People became her signature song. It is performed rarely so Candlelight's current production is an excellent chance to add to your musical theatre bucket list.

Kitchen Dog Theater continues its 26th season of theater with the area premiere of Trevor by Nick Jones. Inspired by true events,?Trevor?is a subversive comedy about fame, success, and the lies we tell ourselves to keep people from taking away an erratic, 200-pound chimpanzee. At the center of this hilarious and heart-wrenching play are two individuals fighting against a world unable to understand their love: Trevor, a chimpanzee who once performed in commercials with the likes of Morgan Fairchild, and his owner Sandra, who swears he would never hurt a fly...at least not on purpose. KDT Co-Artistic Director Tina Parker directs this hilarious and heartbreaking exploration of family, flawed communication, and humanity.
