Celia Keenan-Bolger Will Be Honored At ACLU/NYCLU's 'Broadway Stands Up For Freedom'

Tony Award-winning actress Celia Keenan-Bolger (TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD) and Level Forward, the Tony Award-winning producers of the current revival of OKLAHOMA!, WHAT THE CONSTITUTION MEANS TO ME and the upcoming Broadway musical JAGGED LITTLE PILL, will be honored by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU). They will join a star-studded lineup at the NYCLU and ACLU's 17th annual Broadway Stands Up For Freedom concert on Monday, October 28 at 7:30 PM at the Town Hall (123 W. 44 St.) in Manhattan.

Producers Greg Nobile and Jana Shea of Seaview Productions, Troy Carter, Level Forward, and Nine Stories, founded by Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker, have now officially announced that Slave Play, by Jeremy O. Harris, directed by Robert O'Hara, will be coming to Broadway's Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street) this fall. The strictly limited 17-week engagement will begin preview performances Tuesday, September 10, ahead of an official opening night of Sunday, October 6.

Official: Jeremy O. Harris' SLAVE PLAY Will Open at the Golden Theatre This Fall

BroadwayWorld first reported last month that SLAVE PLAY will come to Broadway this fall. Producers Greg Nobile and Jana Shea of Seaview Productions, Troy Carter, Level Forward, and Nine Stories, founded by Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker, have officially announced that the acclaimed new play by Jeremy O. Harris, directed by Robert O'Hara, will be coming to Broadway's Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street) this fall. The strictly limited 17-week engagement will begin preview performances Tuesday, September 10, ahead of an official opening night of Sunday, October 6.

The Specials Host Parkland High School Students & Parents At Brooklyn Show

The Specials were joined in Brooklyn on Friday night by some very special guests. Some teachers and parents from  Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Artist and activist Manuel Oliver, whose 17 year old son Joaquin was one of the 17 students murdered in the mass shooting last year, gave an impassioned speech to the crowd at Brooklyn Steel.  The band incorporated the Instrument of Hope, a trumpet crafted of bullet casings by survivors of the school shooting, into their sold out performance. The band flew Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students Sawyer Garrity and Andrea Pena, the writers of Shine, and their parents to Brooklyn to attend the concert and meet with the band prior to the show.

Heidi Schreck's Tony Award nominated play and Pulitzer Prize finalist What the Constitution Means to Me, directed by Oliver Butler, will embark on a national tour in January 2020, beginning at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles and playing 40 weeks in 22 cities including Charlotte, Hartford, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, with more to be announced. All venues, dates, and casting for the national tour will be announced at a later date.

Producer Eva Price announced today that the reimagined revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! will launch its North American tour at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in the Fall of 2020. The 2020 tour will mark the first time a First Class Equity production of Oklahoma! has toured North America in 40 years.

TV: Parkland Students' Instrument of Hope Makes its Way to the Broadway Stage at OKLAHOMA!

Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma! became the first Broadway show to feature the Instrument of Hope on Wednesday, May 8th during a special encore performance of 'Out of My Dreams' right after the matinee. The Instrument of Hope, a trumpet made with bullet casings that has been touring around the country, was played on stage by the show's Music Director Nathan Koci, accompanied by the Oklahoma! band.
