It's that time of year when students all across the country are heading into auditions for college theatre program, so we're taking a closer look some of the country's standout theatre programs. We're chatting with members of the schools' faculty to give you a better idea at what to expect from their programs, with insight into the audition advice, life after graduation, and more. Today we're looking into the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
The Autorino Center for the Arts and Humanities at the University of Saint Joseph kicks off the performing arts center's 2019-2020 season with the hip-hop dance duo The Wondertwins' newest show, BLACK. The performance is Friday, Sept. 27, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are available as part of the Autorino Center's Pay-It-Forward program, where audience members decide what, if anything, they would like to pay.
Queens Public Library will commemorate the borough's hip hop heritage with a?oeA Cypher in Queensa??, which features three nine-foot-tall audio sculptures by the Astoria-based sculptor Sherwin Banfield, honoring Jam Master Jay, the legendary DJ and member of Run-DMC who grew up in Hollis, Phife Dawg, from the St. Albans group A Tribe Called Quest, and Prodigy, from the Queensbridge duo Mobb Deep. The sculptures will be on display at Central Library (89-11 Merrick Blvd., Jamaica, 11432) from Sept. 19, 2019 through February 2020.
The Philly POPS steps outside the concert hall for a celebration of the legendary musicians who walked the streets of West Philadelphia. A Musical Celebration of West Philadelphia features the music of John Legend and The Roots, Patti LaBelle, John Coltrane, Jill Scott, the Stylistics, Will Smith, and Boyz II Men, performed by The Philly POPS little BIG Band with guest vocalists Melanie Ashe and Jon Williams.

The Philly POPS and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts will present the School District of Philadelphia's All-City Jazz Festival. The day of free jazz performances by student and professional musicians will be held in the Kimmel Center's Perelman Theater and Commonwealth Plaza on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 from noon 9 p.m. This will be the POPS's fifth year presenting this event and the third year in partnership with the Kimmel Center.
