CMA Foundation Honors Music Educators at Music Teachers Of Excellence

The CMA Foundation, a national music education nonprofit and the philanthropic arm of the Country Music Association, held its fourth annual Music Teachers of Excellence event on Tuesday, April 30, honoring 30 music educators from across the country for their exemplary work. The invite-only program was livestreamed from Marathon Music Works in Nashville.

The top growing current Broadway musicals were Oklahoma! (33.30%), Tootsie The Musical (7.87%), Hadestown (6.74%), Ain't Too Proud (5.79%) and BeetleJuice (4.71%). The top growing current Broadway plays were King Lear (29.91%), Hillary and Clinton (24.25%), What The Constitution Means to Me (17.45%), Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus (6.86%) and Burn This (6.80%).

ALADDIN, CATS, and More are Coming to a Screen Near You in BWW's April Stage-to-Screen Report

This last month came with a lot of new stage to screen news and we're here to catch you up on all of it! The film adaptation everyone is talking about, CATS, just recently wrapped production! The cast and crew also made an appearance at CinemaCon, where Jennifer Hudson sang 'Memory.' CinemaCon also shed light on the upcoming Disney live-action adaptations of both ALADDIN and THE LION KING! And just a few weeks ago, a new trailer was released for ALADDIN. It was recently announced, too, that a film remake of GUYS AND DOLLS is in the works!

Shakespeare Theatre Company Announces Next Michael Kahn And Friends: Off The Record Event

Shakespeare Theatre Company's Artistic Director Michael Kahn invites theatre-lovers to the second event of a series of intimate conversations about his career in D.C. as he prepares to retire. Open, unrehearsed and off the record, invited speakers will swap anecdotes and share memories about Michael Kahn's 33 years directing at the Shakespeare Theatre Company. The discussions focus on three distinct eras in STC's history and chronicle D.C.'s changing theatre scene. This second Michael Kahn and Friends: Off the Record will focus primarily on the formation of the Shakespeare Theatre Company in its second location: the Lansburgh Theatre (1992-2006).

After receiving a BFA from the University of Calgary and working professionally in the local theatre community, Mir made the decision to move to Pakistan (where his family lives and also works in the arts industry) to pursue a career in film and television where he found incredible success. Three years later, he's back with The Shakespeare Company (where he made his start) to take on one of theatre's toughest roles.
