Pioneer Theatre Compant Presents FIREFLIES

Pioneer Theatre Company presents the Utah premiere of an unconventional love story written by MATTHEW BARBER, FIREFLIES. Based on the novel ELEANOR AND ABEL by Annette Sanford, Fireflies premiered in 2017 at Long Wharf Theatre and will run at Pioneer Theatre Company April 1 - 16, 2022.

City Theatre Announces 2022-2023 Season

City Theatre Company, Pittsburgh’s home for contemporary plays, has announced the details of the theatre’s 48th season of bold, new works, beginning in September 2022. City Theatre’s second season post-pandemic shutdown will feature five plays with first-time and returning artists, plus special events.  

The Old Globe Announces Cohort for the 2022 CLASSICAL DIRECTING FELLOWSHIP

The Old Globe announced today the four-member cohort for the 2022 Classical Directing Fellowship, a program of the Karen and Stuart Tanz Fellowships at The Old Globe, led by the Globe’s Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein, a leading Shakespearean teacher, author, and director. 

Colt Coeur Announces 2021-2022 CoCo Residents and New Commissions

For the fifth consecutive year, Colt Coeur has welcomed a select group of emerging playwrights and directors to be CoCo Residents. This year’s cohort is comprised of playwrights Lily Gonzales (they/them) and Lizzie Stern (she/her), and directors Borna Barzin (he/him) and Sarah Blush (she/her).

BWW Interview: Giovanna Sardelli of NEW WORKS FESTIVAL ONLINE at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley Champions Boundary-Breaking Theatre

While the theatre world continues to engage in much-needed conversations about how to make our art form more inclusive and equitable, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley is offering a tangible example of what that can look like. Its New Works Festival Online will stream an advance look at tomorrow's boundary-breaking plays and musicals from an astoundingly diverse array of theatre makers. Transforming the Tony-winning company's annual festival into a virtual experience, New Works Festival Online offers digital audiences an extraordinary opportunity to view new plays and selections from new musicals, and learn more about the development process in conversations with the playwrights. New Works Festival Online runs April 23 - May 15, 2021 with performances streaming live. BroadwayWorld recently spoke with Giovanna Sardelli, TheatreWorks Artistic Associate and Director of New Works, from Las Vegas, where she was born and raised and has been spending most of the pandemic away from her actual home in New York. Sardelli has made a career out of championing new works and seeking out voices we may not have heard before, and her enthusiasm for her work is infectious. Any conversation with her is bound to convince you that you need to venture away from the tried and true and take a chance on a playwright you may be unfamiliar with. Not only will it expand your horizons, but you will also be moved and entertained.

BIPOC Reading Series Festival Announces April Dates

NNPN has announced the dates of The BIPOC Reading Series Festival, a collaboration with UC Santa Barbara's LAUNCH PAD, AMPLIFY, and New & Reimagined Work. A beauty shop in purgatory, a small Michigan high school & the U.S.-Mexico border are just some of the places UC Santa Barbara’s upcoming BIPOC Reading Series Festival will transport audiences.

Syracuse Stage Cold Read Festival Goes Virtual in 2021

 All plays were once new plays. That’s the idea behind Syracuse Stage’s Cold Read Festival of New Plays. Now in its fourth season, the Cold Read Festival has seven different events featuring some of the freshest voices writing for theater today, nationally and locally, scheduled for Tuesday, March 23, through Sunday, March 28.
