Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC) announced the results of its 2022 Executive Board election at its Annual Membership Meeting on Monday night, November 14. Evan Yionoulis was elected to serve a second term as Executive Board President.

Erika Henningsen will lead the world premiere of new musical Joy the Musical at George Street Playhouse, directed by Casey Hushion (Broadway: Aladdin, The Prom), with choreography by Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Joshua Bergasse. 

For the third production in their 2022 season of original outdoor musical revues, Transcendence Theatre Company will present THE GALA, September 9 - 18,  at Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen, CA. Tickets for THE GALA are available now at bestnightever.org. 

The World Premiere of SUGAR HILL The Ellington/Strayhorn Nutcracker, the reimagining of The Nutcracker based on the collaboration of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, will debut at Pittsburgh’s Benedum Center for the Performing Arts from October 19-30, 2022. The production will follow with a run at New York City Center from November 15-27, 2022.

Barrington Stage Company has announced it is the recipient of a $100,000 grant from The Shubert Foundation. The Shubert Foundation has announced $37.6 million in unrestricted grants to 609 not-for-profit theaters, dance companies, academic theater training programs, and related service agencies.

The world premiere Pillow-exclusive engagement, America(na) to Me, will kick off Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival 2022 in the opening week of the Festival – as the first week-long performance in the newly renovated Ted Shawn Theatre – from June 22-26.

The newly renovated State Theatre New Jersey presents Roald Dahl’s Charlie and The Chocolate Factory for four performances on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 8pm; Saturday, May 14 at 2pm and 8pm; and Sunday, May 15 at 2pm. Tickets range from $40-$98.  

American Dance Machine for the 21st Century has released its next video, “The Best Things Happen When You’re Dancing” from the Broadway musical Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin.
