Organizers for the annual Tucson Jazz Festival have announced they are cancelling the 2021 event planned for March 20-21, 2021. Concerns for public health due to the rising spread of COVID-19 prompted the Board and leadership to cancel the popular festival, with plans to resume in 2022.
This fall season, jazz is in the air with Flushing Town Hall’s virtual music programming including the popular monthly Virtual Jazz Jam: Celebrating the Legacy of Louis Armstrong, and two concert series: Lioness: Women in Jazz, and New Music Horizons – Collaborative Artists in Concert—all of which are free for anyone to enjoy from the comfort of their home.
Jazzmobile SUMMERFEST2020 launched on August 8thand over 3,000 viewers tuned in for Great Jazz on the Great Hill presented in partnership with the Central Park Conservancy. To usher in their 63rd year, The Monterey Jazz Festival is going virtual, live on their YouTube channel. Friday, September 25th through Sunday, September 27th from 5-7pm PST each day. Flushing Town Hall will celebrate the life and legacy of NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Heath, the Music Director of the Queens Jazz Orchestra, in a virtual tribute a?" a?oeI'm Back Swinging Again! a?" on Friday, June 19 at 7:00 PM. Mr. Heath, who passed away in January at the age of 93, had been due to return to Flushing Town Hall's stage with his orchestra that evening.
