Williamstown Theatre Festival has announced the recipient of the 2021 L. Arnold Weissberger New Play Award and the 2022 Jay Harris Commission, as well as recipients of 2021 WTF Commissions through WTF’s Andrew Martin-Weber New Play and Musical Commissioning Program.

The Alley Theatre is presenting a variety of contemporary plays as a part of the Alley’s Spring 2021 Digital Season. Plays now available to view include Man. Kind. by Don X. Nguyen (April 9 – May 9, 2021), and For Steve Wozniak, on His 67th Birthday by Jiehae Park (April 9 – May 9, 2021). 

The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize will present a virtual presentation to announce the 2021 winner of one of the most prestigious playwriting awards, and the oldest and largest prize awarded to women+ playwrights, today, April 7, 2021 at 3pm EST/ 8pm BST. Tune in right here at BroadwayWorld to watch the presentation, hosted by Pulitzer Prize-winning Playwright and Susan Smith Blackburn Prize winner (1983) Marsha Norman.

The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has announced 10 Finalists for 2021 for its prestigious playwriting award, the oldest and largest prize awarded to women+ playwrights.

The Old Globe announced today it will present the eighth annual Powers New Voices Festival, four days of readings of new plays by some of the most exciting voices writing for the American theatre today. This year's event will be presented virtually for the first time, streaming online January 21–24, 2021 on the free virtual Hopin platform. The Festival is free to the public, but reservations are required.

The Alley Theatre has announced the cancellation of all in-person performances of the 2020-21 season. The following shows are affected by the cancellation: Born with Teeth by Liz Duffy Adams (January 22 – February 14, 2021), Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett (March 5 – 28, 2021), and more.

PRIMARY STAGES has announced its Fall 2020 Virtual Season. The Foundation Series will revisit the work of some of Primary Stages' family of artists, including The Tribute Artist by Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Award winner Charles Busch and The Night Watcher by Obie Award winner and Tony Award nominee Charlayne Woodard.

AATAB is not a theatre company. They were originally founded in 2018 as a social collective connected by a Facebook group. In response to Boston's need to embrace local Asian American artists she explains she would rather see established organizations do the work to welcome and elevate members of the community than see an individual company formed.

PLAY AT HOME, the new micro-commissioning initiative begun by Baltimore Center Stage, Long Wharf Theatre, The Public Theater, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, has announced their 100th playwright commission, ensuring that $50,000 has gone directly to playwrights in need in this time of crisis.

Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) have announced this year's six recipients of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Initiative commissions. The commissioned writers are Kate Attwell, Mia Chung, Noah Diaz, Julia Izumi, Ife Olujobi, and Stacey Rose.

New York Theatre Workshop just celebrated opening night of Endlings, which will play for a limited run through Sunday, March 29, 2020. Endlings is written by Celine Song (Tom & Eliza) and will be directed by Sammi Cannold (Evita at City Center).

PRIMARY STAGES has announced their 2020/21 season, which will mark a return to 59E59 Theaters as the resident theatre company beginning in September 2020.

Leah Ryan's Fund For Emerging Women Writers celebrates ten years of awarding it's prize to women playwrights with 10 X 10: An Evening of 10 Minute Plays Celebrating Ten Years of Winners. The gala event will take place at Cherry Lane Theatre on March 30 and will feature world premiere short plays from past recipients Megan Mostyn Brown, Genia Femia, Jiehae Park, and Eliana Pipes. A pre-show cocktail reception begins at 6:00pm, followed by the main performance at 7:00pm and an afterparty at Cowgirl. The evening will be under the direction of Daniella Topol. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival today announced Branden Jacobs-Jenkins as the 37th and final commissioned artist as part of American Revolutions: the United States History Cycle, OSF's multi-decade program for developing new plays about moments of change in United States history.

The writing team of Tidtaya Sinutoke (music) and Isabella Dawis (book & lyrics) have won the 14th Annual Weston-Ghostlight New Musical Award for their new musical, HALF THE SKY. 

Cherry Lane Theatre (Angelina Fiordellisi, Executive Director; Seri Lawrence, Artistic Director) has announced a workshop presentation of a new work, The Making Of) How to Save the World in 90 Minutes by writer/composer Shawn Randall, directed by Alfredo Narciso and mentored by Diana Oh ({my lingerie play}).
