BWW Review: MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET at Metropol Vienna

On December 4th, 1956, history has been written in Sam Phillips Sun Records Studio. The likes of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis bumped into each other jammed together, and recorded something that happens only once in a lifetime. The star-studded musicians kicked their careers off in Sam Phillips studio. The man who found them and made them into what we know now, Legends in the Rock'n'Roll universe.

BWW Review: OLD SOULS: Jared Chinnock & Evan Buckley Harris Find Their Voice at The Bitter End

I took a second look at OLD SOULS. I’m glad I went. I would say about 80% of the show was the same as it was at Don’t Tell Mama. But with new songs, the new configuration of the band, and being in a room that is designed for rock and roll, OLD SOULS  was a very different experience. Everything about the show was tighter, more in the groove, more amped up, and a more authentic representation of Chinnock & Harris. The two men have different approaches to classic rock. Jared Chinnock is a more bombastic performer whereas Evan Buckley Harris is more laid back. In their Don’t Tell Mama show, the difference in their styles was obvious in some discrepancies in phrasing. In this new incarnation of the show, they seem to have met each other in the middle. Chinnock has found a more lyrical quality in his stratospheric tenor and Harris has found places to let loose and wail. They have found their voice as a group.

BWW Feature: NEW THEATRE REOPENS at New Theatre Restaurant

New safety limitations and significant high tech investment at New Theatre Restaurant has allowed dinner theater to return to Overland Park and the Kansas City area. New Theatre Restaurant, one of America’s premiere dinner theater/restaurants, reopened with “The King In Concert,” starring Elvis Presley impersonator Victor Trevino Jr and with Dominique Scott in a reprise of his characterization of Jerry Lee Lewis from last season’s “Million Dollar Quartet.”

BWW Review: JARED CHINNOCK & EVAN BUCKLEY HARRIS: OLD SOULS Strikes Just the Right Chord at Don't Tell Mama

Chinnock and Harris are a study in contrasts. Jared Chinnock is a small, wiry, blond, tenor, guitar player with a Welsh accent. His style is percussive and dramatic. Evan Buckley Harris is a tall, dark-haired, baritone pianist. His style is more lyrical and laid-back. But for all their differences, their voices blend beautifully. It was a pleasure to hear them harmonize.  They also clearly enjoy playing together. Their onstage chemistry is very fraternal.
