I like to do one topic per week, but on rare occasions, so much happens that a subdivided column is necessary. This is one of those times. Appropriate is a revival. The Tonys will have a new spokesperson. Jewish leaders are fighting against antisemitism.

In this issue, we uncover the varying success of Connecticut theaters, where Broadway hits thrive while mid-level shows struggle with ticket sales. We also look at multiple ideas on how to save the American theater - including a look at innovative approaches to funding in a piece by Cara Joy David.

Theater people have all spent a lot of time in recent months talking about how bad things are in the industry. And I believe there are solid reasons to keep writing about that. But in the next couple of weeks, I’m going to write about some of what is happening in the face of current obstacles.

What the Constitution Means to Me has partnered with TodayTix to offer a limited number of $40 tickets for its one-night-only reading on June 9, 2022, at 8pm. The evening will benefit the National Network of Abortion Funds. Schreck and the original Broadway cast of What the Constitution Means to Me will star. 

On Friday, May 20, 2022, one hour before the Drama League Awards, Board President Bonnie Comley, Kirk Iwanowski, Mary Jain, and the Board Hosted a VIP Reception at the Drama League Awards right next to the Ziegfeld Ballroom. While the Drama League Distinguished Performance nominees were lining up for the dais, a cocktail party was in full swing in the adjacent ballroom.

Heidi Schreck and the original Broadway cast of her Tony Award nominated and Pulitzer Prize finalist play What the Constitution Means to Me will reunite for a special one-night-only reading of the play to benefit the National Network of Abortion Funds on June 9, 2022 at 8pm at the historic Great Hall at Cooper Union.

On the eve of the two-year-anniversary of the Broadway Shutdown, The Broadway Women's Alliance and YesAnd Productions today announced that the first episode of the new docuseries Here's To The Ladies Who  is now available for streaming.

Last night in New York City, the American Ballet Theatre held its Fall Gala – its first since 2019 – in person at the David H. Koch Theater. The event, which featured a performance and dinner, honored Tony Award-winning producer and ABT Trustee Jenna Segal with The Melville Straus Leadership Achievement Award.

In its return to indoor performances in New York City, American Ballet Theatre will present the 2021 Fall season at the David H. Koch Theater, October 20-31, 2021. 

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts announced today that Jason Robert Brown, Savion Glover, Priscilla López, Susan Stroman, Marisha Wallace, and Christopher Wheeldon have joined the growing list of Broadway stars participating in I'm Still Here: A Virtual Benefit for the Billy Rose Theatre Division, airing June 23, 2021 on Broadway On Demand at 8pm EST and 8pm PST. The fundraiser will help raise critical funds for the Library for the Performing Arts' beloved Theatre Division as it celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.
