The Aspen Music Festival and School and Theatre Aspen to Present THE SOUND OF MUSIC: IN CONCERT

The Aspen Music Festival and School (Alan Fletcher, President and CEO) and Theatre Aspen (Jed Bernstein, Producing Director) announced today that this summer their organizations will again collaborate to present a very special one-night-only concert production of The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic musical The Sound of Music on Monday, August 3 at 7:30 pm in the Benedict Music Tent. This evening builds on the success of the sold-out production of South Pacific last year and will be presented by special arrangement with The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization.

The Bucks County Playhouse is one of the most historic theaters in the country. Its wooden walls practically brim over with a sense of magic, holding within them the vast legacy of performers and creatives who made their impact upon its stage. Names like Grace Kelly, Robert Redford, Neil Simon, Helen Hayes, Angela Lansbury... and that's the short list. One of the people currently contributing to the Playhouse's legacy in a big way is Alexander Fraser, who came onboard the Bucks County Playhouse team as Producing Director in January of 2014.

This season, loaded with talent from Broadway, national tours, and training programs from across the country, promises to provide one not-to-be-missed event after another. God of Carnage joins the previously announced Tony Award-winning musical Guys and Dolls, directed by Tony Award nominee Hunter Foster and choreographed by Lisa Shriver, Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Carbonell Award winner Mark Martino, and the Theatre Aspen Summer Conservatory's student production of The Wizard of Oz, all at the Hurst Theatre.

Tony award-winner, Elizabeth Ashley ("Take Her She's Mine") and Tony nominee Tom Hewitt ("The Rocky Horror Show") will headline a refreshed production of Paul Rudnick's witty, laugh out loud comedy, "I Hate Hamlet" at Bucks County Playhouse, November 9 - December 1. The play marks Ashley's return to the Playhouse after co-starring opposite Robert Redford in the pre-Broadway production of Neil Simon's "Barefoot in the Park."
