Dr. Barbara Ann Teer’s Tony-nominated National Black Theatre (NBT) has announced its 2023-24 season, ‘Defiance of Our Bloom,’ with a theatrical lineup of four productions created in partnership with three leading theaters including Ars Nova, The Apollo Performing Arts Center and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. 

Art in all of its many forms and manifestations come together to create a blend of community events, live music, activism, entrepreneurship and performances during the month of August as part of BAMBDFEST, an international event hosted by the Black Arts Movement Business District, Community Development Corporation (BAMBD CDC). The theme (un)belong(ed) is an exploration of space, place and belonging. In a community faced with the realities of gentrification and displacement, belonging and the space and place to enact it are crucial considerations.

Culture is what makes the world go round in Oakland. It's why folks flock here, and its why people stay. Unfortunately, making art and preserving culture in The Town is difficult and sometimes miraculous - especially if you are Black. As the politics and demographics of Oakland have shifted, pushing out large swaths of Black community members, Black artists have shouldered much of the impact of gentrification.

Black Theatre United has announced its inaugural Gala, set to take place on Monday, October 30 at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York. Supported by Business for Good (BFG), the theme is “A Salute to Broadway Legends: Past, Present, and Future” and will be a star-studded evening in celebration of the indelible mark that Black culture has had and continues to have on Broadway.

TYPT, Talawa Theatre Company’s flagship free programme for emerging theatre makers, is back this summer.  The annual programme sees a team of 12 emerging artists, aged 18-25, work with established artists to create a brand-new show in just four weeks.  This year’s showcase will be 16th – 18th August at Talawa’s HQ at Fairfield Halls in Croydon. 

​​​​​​​Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe and Greatness Beyond Measure are collaborating on Center Stage Live! featuring two concerts by brothers Jordan and Joel Bolds, who will present a sizzling blend of electrifying soul, gospel, and smooth jazz. Special guest artists Charlie “CJ” Melton – a young regular on WBTT's stage – and Marc Dortch will contribute vocals.

Dani Moseley (Everything I Know About Love) reprises her role as Amy alongside Salmon. They are joined by Demmy Ladipo (We Are Lady Parts) as Maurice, Rachel Adedeji (Champion) as Funmi, Babirye Bukilwa (WE HUNT TOGETHER) as Vanessa, Alexander Owen (Jurassic World Dominion) as Adam and Will Hislop (Gangs of London) as Lewis.

The Black Jacket Symphony presents Eagles Hotel California at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center this month. The performance is set for August 26, 2023.

Casting has been announced for the UK And Ireland tour of Susan Hill's THE WOMAN IN BLACK. The production will star Malcolm James as Arthur Kipps and Mark Hawkins as The Actor, opening at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre on Wednesday 6 September 2023.

The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation's (NNJCF) ArtsBergen initiative has announced the New Jersey Council for the Humanities (NJCH) awarded an Action Grant. 

One-man shows tackling queer experiences aren’t hard to come by. They’re, rightfully, being given platforms across the fringe scene. Home to a plethora of unique stories, the queer community is ripe for creative exploration. From coming out and hook-up culture to homophobia and sexual violence, there are complex narratives that provide rich bases for creatives.

The Den Theatre has announced upcoming appearances by Kyle Dunnigan, Michael Ian Black, Maria Bamford, and René Vaca coming to The Heath Mainstage at 1331 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood.
