CSO To Perform Leningrad Symphony In Russian Winter Festival

Music Director Rossen Milanov and the Columbus Symphony begin 2019 with a performance of Shostakovich's iconic Leningrad Symphony inspired by Nazi Germany's siege of the city during World War II. One of the composer's most power compositions, this work conveys tragedy, oppression, resistance, and ultimately, victory. The performance will be accompanied by excerpts of the 1997 documentary about Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich titled The War Symphonies: Shostakovich Against Stalin.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's A Concert For Peace And Unity' to Air On PBS

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's “Music for the Spirit: A Concert for Peace and Unity,” a free concert for the community honoring the Tree of Life Synagogue victims and First Responders, will be recorded at Heinz Hall for future television broadcast nationally on PBS. WQED's production of Tree of Life: A Concert for Peace and Unity is made possible with funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Tickets to the concert on Nov. 27 are no longer available, so we're pleased to announce that those who are unable to attend will get to experience the concert via the television broadcast.

On Today, November 17, 2018 at 8:00pm at Alice Tully Hall, American Classical Orchestra (ACO) presents Imperial Haydn with guest soloist Aisslinn Nosky (violin) and ACO principals Marc Schachman (oboe), Andrew Schwartz (bassoon), and Myron Lutzke (cello). Along with Haydn's 'L'Imperiale' (No. 53), the program also features his Sinfonia Concertante in B-flat major and a rare performance of Kalliwoda's Symphony No. 5 in B minor.

The Hollywood Bowl, one of the leading outdoor music venues in the world, managed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, was honored as Top Amphitheater at the Billboard Live Music Awards, on Tuesday night at the Montage Beverly Hills. The Billboard Live Music Awards honor the top tours, festivals, venues, executives, and touring artists in music. This distinction marks the second consecutive Billboard Live Music Award for the iconic venue.

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) will host a special "Music for the Spirit" concert to honor the Tree of Life Synagogue victims on Tuesday, November 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts. Titled "A Concert for Peace & Unity," this evening of remembrance and reverence aims to provide an opportunity for the Pittsburgh community to find comfort, strength and solace through music, hope and unity. Taking place one month after the tragedy, the concert is free to the public,* and all are invited to attend.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and Acclaimed Mandolinist Avi Avital to Headline Free Community Concert

The Community Arts Music Association (CAMA) of Santa Barbara will present a free community concert featuring renowned mandolin soloist Avi Avital and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra performing works by Italian Baroque master Antonio Vivaldi at The Granada Theatre on Tuesday, December 11. Beginning at 8 pm, the performance will include Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Violins in G Minor, his Concerto for Two Violins in A Minor, and The Four Seasons, his beloved collection of violin concerti. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The December events presented by Great Music at St. Bart's are among New Yorkers' favorite holiday traditions: seasonal music in the beautiful spaces of St. Bartholomew's Church. A Joyous Christmas Concert (December 11) offers choral, orchestral, and organ music of the season along with a Christmas carol sing-in; Adoration of the Magi (December 14) is an intimate visual and musical celebration of the holidays in the St. Bart's Chapel; and A Concert To Usher In the New Year( December 31), a holiday gift to the city, is a late evening organ concert and post-concert toast, that is free to the public (details below).

The Adelphi Orchestra, Violinist Randall Goosby To Perform Korngold's Triumphant Concert Opus

The Adelphi Orchestra will feature Randall Mitsuo Goosby, Violin (First Prize winner of the Adelphi Orchestra Competition, First Prize winner of the Sphinx Competition ) in the rarely performed and defiantly triumphant Korngold Concerto for Violin in D major, Op. 35. Randall Goosby's performance of the Korngold Violin Concerto will be the centerpiece in a program entitled "From Vienna with Love" which will also feature Strauss's Overture to Die Fledermaus and concludes with the beautiful Symphony no 2 in D major by Brahms. The concert,  conducted by Richard Owen on Sunday October 27th at 7PM will take place at  NYC's historic Good Shepherd - Faith Presbyterian Church located in the heart of Lincoln Center. Juilliard Pre-College, under the direction of artistic director Yoheved Kaplinsky, celebrates its centennial season with a gala evening on Monday, November 5. Juilliard presents An Evening Celebrating 100 Years of the Juilliard Pre-College Division, featuring distinguished conductor Robert Spano, music director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, leading the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra in a concert with Juilliard faculty member and Pre-College piano alumnus Emanuel Ax, at 7pm in Alice Tully Hall. The program includes Bernstein's Overture to Candide; Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major, Op. 73 ("Emperor"); and Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio espagnol, Op. 34, with additional performances by Pre-College students and alumni.

The Escher String Quartet Opens Segerstrom Center's 18/19 Chamber Music Series

Segerstrom Center for the Arts launches its 2018-2019 Chamber Series with the acclaimed Escher String Quartet on November 1, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. in Samueli Theater. Since its founding in 2005, the quartet has quickly garnered the reputation as one of the finest young string ensembles performing today. Their instrumental interplay, which combines technical precision with warmth and vitality, has reaped accolades nationally and abroad, and elicited invitations from Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman to be the quartet-in-residence at their respective summer festivals. In a review, The Strad wrote, "…a level of individual technical precision and a collective musical purpose that is endlessly compelling … Sheer brilliance." Quartet members include Adam Barnett-Hart and Danbi Um, violins; Pierre Lapointe, viola; and Brook Speltz, cello.

CSO To Perform Handel's MESSIAH In Its Entirety

CSO Music Director Rossen Milanov leads the Columbus Symphony, guest soprano Alexandra Razskazoff, guest mezzo-soprano Siena Licht Miller, guest tenor Jonas Marcel Hacker, guest bass-baritone Andrew Bogard, and the Columbus Symphony Chorus in an unforgettable performance of Handel's deeply spiritual oratorio, Messiah. The work will be performed in its entirety and is the first time the Columbus Symphony has done so since 2010.
