Peter Oundjian Appointed Music Director Of Colorado Music Festival; 2019 Concert Season Announced

The Colorado Music Festival today announced the appointment of conductor Peter Oundjian as its next Music Director. He is the fourth person to hold this title in the 42-year history of the festival, which is held for six weeks each year at the Colorado Chautauqua, a National Historic Landmark at the foot of the rugged Flatirons. Mr. Oundjian led the 2018 festival as Artistic Advisor, and his appointment as Music Director was announced along with the festival's 2019 season, which runs from June 27 to August 3 and explores the legacy of Beethoven.

Opera Grand Rapids Presents An Evening with Sean Panikkar, A Recital, With Pianist Rohan De Silva

In the first major installment of the 2018-19 Opera Unlimited Series, Opera Grand Rapids is bringing an exclusive recital to West Michigan on Thursday, February 7th, with contemporary opera star, Sean Panikkar, along with award winning pianist, Rohan De Silva to perform a collection of opera, art songs, lieder, and song cycles in the intimate setting of the Betty Van Andel Opera Center.

Barbara Hannigan Makes Her New York Conducting Debut With The Juilliard Orchestra

Singer/conductor Barbara Hannigan makes her New York conducting debut with the Juilliard Orchestra in works by Strauss, Haydn, Debussy, Sibelius, and Bartok on Friday, February 8, 2019, at 7:30pm in Alice Tully Hall. The program features Strauss' "Salome's Dance" from Salome, Op. 54; Haydn's Symphony No. 96 in D Major, Hob. I:96, ("The Miracle"); Debussy's Syrinx (flute soloist to be announced); Sibelius' Luonnatar, Op. 70, with Juilliard soprano Meghan Kasanders; and Bartok's Suite from The Miraculous Mandarin. Hannigan made her debut as a conductor in 2011 at the Chatelet in Paris with Stravinsky's Renard; the soprano has been dividing her time between singing and conducting ever since.

The Musco Center Will Host the Juilliard String Quartet This February

Areta Zhulla, the new first violinist with Juilliard String Quartet (JSQ) makes her West Coast debut presented by Musco Center for the Arts at Chapman University on February 21 at 7:30pm. Violinist Philippe Quint Releases Chaplin's Smile On Warner Classics, Feat. Joshua Bell

On Friday, January 11, 2019, multiple Grammy Award-nominated violinist Philippe Quint makes his debut on Warner Classics with the release of his latest album Chaplin's Smile, a collection of Charlie Chaplin songs newly arranged for violin and piano. To commemorate the 130th anniversary of Chaplin's birth in 2019, Chaplin's Smile features Philippe Quint joined on two tracks by Quint's friend and frequent collaborator, violinist Joshua Bell. Over more than three years, Quint, in collaboration with arrangers Charles Coleman and Leon Gurvitch went through dozens of songs and soundtracks written by Chaplin to select the songs best suited for violin and piano.

CSO's RUSSIAN WINTER FESTIVAL II To Feature Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto

The celebration of Russian composers continues as CSO Music Director Rossen Milanov and the musicians of the Columbus Symphony present a program that juxtaposes Tchaikovsky's passionate, romantic music against Prokofiev's bold symphonic tableaux. The program includes the Suite from Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty as well as his Piano Concerto No. 1 featuring special guest pianist Sergei Babayan. The performance will conclude with Prokofiev's Symphony No. 5.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and Acclaimed Mandolinist Avi Avital to Headline Free Community Concert

The Community Arts Music Association (CAMA) of Santa Barbara will present a free community concert featuring renowned mandolin soloist Avi Avital and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra performing works by Italian Baroque master Antonio Vivaldi at The Granada Theatre today, December 11. Beginning at 8 pm, the performance will include Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Violins in G Minor, his Concerto for Two Violins in A Minor, and The Four Seasons, his beloved collection of violin concerti. CSO To Perform Leningrad Symphony In Russian Winter Festival

Music Director Rossen Milanov and the Columbus Symphony begin 2019 with a performance of Shostakovich's iconic Leningrad Symphony inspired by Nazi Germany's siege of the city during World War II. One of the composer's most power compositions, this work conveys tragedy, oppression, resistance, and ultimately, victory. The performance will be accompanied by excerpts of the 1997 documentary about Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich titled The War Symphonies: Shostakovich Against Stalin.

American Classical Orchestra Presents Imperial Haydn, Feat. Violinist Aisslinn Nosky & Rare Kalliwoda Symphony

On Today, November 17, 2018 at 8:00pm at Alice Tully Hall, American Classical Orchestra (ACO) presents Imperial Haydn with guest soloist Aisslinn Nosky (violin) and ACO principals Marc Schachman (oboe), Andrew Schwartz (bassoon), and Myron Lutzke (cello). Along with Haydn's 'L'Imperiale' (No. 53), the program also features his Sinfonia Concertante in B-flat major and a rare performance of Kalliwoda's Symphony No. 5 in B minor.
