VIDEO: Carnegie Hall Artists Explore Viola, French Horn, and Movement

How can music use physical movement to convey individual and collective change? Ensemble Connect, Carnegie Hall's resident fellowship ensemble, asked and answered this question through an innovative performance in January 2020. Working with a choreographer and theater director, the musicians found that their physical movement in their performance could be used with a powerful and poignant effect that enhanced the experience of the music for themselves and for the audience.

On Juneteenth, Friday, June 19, 2020, the commemoration of the ending of slavery in the U.S., Karamu House will debut Freedom on Juneteenth, a program to feature musicians and vocalists, spoken word artists, and dancers, as they too, respond to the recent murders of Black Americans through their respective art forms. The program, to air at 7PM EST/4 PM PST on local television stations, various streaming platforms, and social media, will also include live dialogue and conversation, with accessible resources in order to create change within our communities.

Carnegie Hall has launched a new online series-Learn with Carnegie Hall-including a wide range of musical activities for families, created by the Hall's Weill Music Institute. Over the course of the summer, episodes will be available for families to stream weekly that explore the power of music to spark growth, curiosity, and connection.
