Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Announces New Bowers Program Artists

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS) today announced the five artists selected to be part of The Bowers Program, the most extensive opportunity for classical artists and ensembles in the early stages of major careers to integrate their professional lives with established chamber music artists. The Bowers Program, which began as CMS Two in 1994, has been a source of professional development for some of the world's leading classical musicians, including Hilary Hahn, Inon Barnatan, Alisa Weilerstein, Anthony McGill, and the Miró, Escher, and Danish String Quartets, among many others.
New York Youth Symphony Cancels Remaining 2019-2020 Concerts

The New York Youth Symphony (NYYS) has announced that it will cancel its remaining concerts for the 2019-20 season. The decision was made in accordance the CDC's recommendations against gatherings of over 50 people through May to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. All of NYYS's programs a?" Orchestra, Jazz, Chamber Music, Composition, Musical Theater Songwriting, and Conducting a?" will move to online curriculum, including seminars, practice and listening assignments, and masterclasses, to keep NYYS students musically active, engaged, and looking ahead to next season.

The Met's first cancellation due to coronavirus concerns was the revival of Rossini's LA CENERENTOLA, the opera retelling of the Cinderella story, set to star mezzo Tara Erraught in the title role and one of its biggest tenor stars, Javier Camarena as Don Ramiro, her prince. The opera holds a particular place in Camarena's history at the Met: It made him an overnight sensation when he was tapped to replace Juan Diego Florez and blew the roof off--a real-life Cinderella story.
American Composers Orchestra Will Not Perform April 2 Concert At Carnegie Hall

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) will not perform its April 2, 2020 concert at Carnegie Hall, which has extended its public closure through Sunday, May 10, 2020 in an effort to reduce the spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19). The concert, led by ACO Music Director George Manahan, was to have featured the world premieres of two new works commissioned by ACO a?" Mark Adamo's Last Year: Concerto for Solo Violoncello with Harp, Piano, String Orchestra with cellist Jeffrey Zeigler and Nina C. Young's Out of whose womb came the ice with baritone David Tinervia and video by Luke DuBois. The premieres of both pieces will be rescheduled at the earliest opportunity, as part of a future ACO concert.
