Luis G. Hoyos, award-winning set designer best known for Memoirs of a Geisha, Dreamgirls, will receive the Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) Lifetime Achievement Award from the Set Designers & Model Makers Council (SDMM). The ceremony will take place at the 27th Annual Art Directors Guild’s Excellence in Production Design Awards.

Phil Tippett (Star Wars, Jurassic Park) created the film’s special effects, pioneering a new technique called “go motion” that incorporates blurring into each frame for more realistic images.  Vermithrax Pejorative, the fire-breathing creature at the center of the story, was created using a combination of go motion and 16 massive dragon puppets.  

The Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) has announced that Illustrator/Storyboard Artist Janet Kusnick will be presented with an Art Directors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award by the Illustrators and Matte Artists (IMA) Council. The celebration will take place at the 27th Annual ADG Awards on Saturday February 18, 2023, at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown. Making the announcement was Guild President Nelson Coates, ADG and Awards Producers Michael Allen Glover, ADG and Megan Elizabeth Bell, ADG.

Yvette Nicole Brown is an Emmy-nominated actress, writer, producer, singer and host. Her numerous movie credits include Disney’s Disenchanted, Avengers: Endgame, Dreamgirls, Tropic Thunder and the live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp. Brown has an extensive voiceover career and has been a guest and co-host on such shows as The View.

The Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE, Local 800) will honor multi- Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro with the prestigious William Cameron Menzies Award, celebrating his visually striking and emotionally rich body of work. Del Toro’s most noted films include Pan’s Labyrinth, which garnered Academy Awards.

ANGELA BASSETT is an actress, director, and executive producer known for captivating, emotionally tinged performances full of dignity in treasured films such as Waiting To Exhale, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, and the Tina Turner biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It, for which she received an Academy Award nomination.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) hosted the BAFTA Tea Party for the first time in two years on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles. Devlin CAS (Black Panther, Wakanda Forever) will be lauded with the CAS Career Achievement Award.
