Jermyn Street Theatre announced a 30-actor cast for its 12-hour staging of Derek Walcott's OMEROS, directed by Kwame Owusu and Emily Aboud, featuring Paterson Joseph, Fisayo Akinade, and Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́ among others.

Jermyn Street Theatre has revealed the cast for its staging of Omeros by Derek Walcott, presented as an epic 12-hour, one-day theatrical event. Walcott's iconic poem will be performed by a company of 30 actors appearing in relay throughout the day.

Kiln Theatre has announced that Bobbie Little will now play Edmund/Covell in the world premiere of new musical Coven, with music and lyrics by Rebecca Brewer and Grammy Award winning Daisy Chute, and book by Rebecca Brewer.

Directed by Miranda Cromwell, it’s a mixed bag: invigorating and galvanising on one hand, sermonic and overly explanatory on the other. Exquisite performances deliver generally mid songs that have a tendency to come up short on poetic narrative, but overdo it on the clichés. A more decisive tonal approach might have made the message hit harder. The continuous reiteration of the piece’s political beliefs and the doubling down on its feminist slant by telling rather than showing us slows the show down dramatically and narratively.

Stratford East has announced the cast and creative team for its revival of hit Windrush Ska musical The Big Life, with book by Paul Sirett and Tameka Empson, lyrics by Paul Sirett, and music by Paul Joseph.

Loosely based on the article The Ivory Highway, Lynn Nottage’s (MJ The Musical) eye-opening drama first made its Off-Broadway premiere in 2018. Now setting its sights in London’s Kiln Theatre, her powerful message on the impact of corruption and greed still remains as urgent as it did five years ago.

Gabrielle Brooks, along with other roles, plays Githinji, the Chief of Police. BroadwayWorld discussed with Gabrielle what it is like to be playing multiple roles with a small ensemble, what she hopes audiences take away from the show, and what she has learned during her time researching for the role.

Kiln Theatre has announced full casting for the UK première of Lynn Nottage's Mlima's Tale. Miranda Cromwell directs Gabrielle Brooks (Githinji), Pui Fan Lee (Gouxi), Brandon Grace (Andrew), Natey Jones (Geedi) and Ira Mandela Siobhan (Mlima). The production opens on 21 September, with previews from 14 September, and runs until 21 October.

On Sunday 25 June, Shakespeare’s Globe will host ‘Moving Stories’ in the candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse in support of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. The event will include sketches, short plays and songs examining the experiences of refugees, and responses to the crisis.
