One should plant their tongue firmly in cheek for this one. It is over-the-top, exaggerated, and farcical in the way of Urinetown, The Book of Mormon, and Something Rotten. The original music is quite good and rather entertaining. The content seems to be split between two camps some directed at the a?oeadult generationa?? of baby boomers, and some at their a?oemillenniala?? offspring. Not that the two can't or don't overlap. Several common stereotypes and clichés are targeted as the butt of many jokes so there is pretty much something that works for just about everyone. There are some fun moments that require thinking: a?oethat Greek figure of a daughter of yoursa??, a?oelet's light a match behind this cowa??; and some that are just plain in your face: a?oemaybe the earth doesn't like an enemaa??. Some, I really just did not understand: a?oejust because you have the same feet doesn't mean you have the same legsa??, nor why it is supposed to be funny. That's when I realized it was best to simply let go and enjoy the silliness that abounds.

The Jimmy Awards today announced the industry coaches for the eleventh annual awards ceremony

Tony winner Christopher Gattelli (Newsies, The Cher Show, My Fair Lady, SpongeBob) will direct an invite-only, developmental reading of the new musical, The Song of Bernadette, March 14th & 15th, starring Dear Evan Hansen's Mallory Bechtel as Bernadette, alongside Tony Winner Alice Ripley (Next to Normal, Side Show, American Psycho), Derek Klena (Carrie, Dogfight, Anastasia) and Drew Gehling (Waitress, Dave).

Complete casting and creative team has been announced for Manhattan Concert Productions' concert performance of Tony Award-nominated musical The Scarlet Pimpernel, on February 18, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center. Gabriel Barre (Stage Director) and Jason Howland (Music Director) reunite to lead the cast and creative team in this concert performance of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Despite an earlier report from the Hollywood Reporter, it has been reported that Academy Award-winner Rita Moreno (West Side Story) will not join the cast of the upcoming big screen adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, In The Heights, after all.

Anthony Ramos has been tapped to star in the film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's hit 2005 Broadway musical, In the Heights, according to Variety. 

The colorful and complex true story of six-time world champion prizefighter Emile Griffith is told in Man in the Ring, a new play written by Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Cristofer, directed by Michael Greif, and presented by the Huntington Theatre Company from Nov. 16 to Dec. 22, 2018 at the Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts.  Imbued with the warmth of Griffith's character and the joyful music of his childhood home, Man in the Ring chronicles Griffith's sweeping life story, from his humble beginnings in the Virgin Islands to his passionate love affairs and the tragedy that changed his life.

IN THE HEIGHTS 3-LP Vinyl Box Set - commemorating the landmark Tenth Anniversary of the label's Grammy Award winning Original Broadway Cast Recording - will celebrate with an exclusive in-store event at Barnes & Noble on Monday, July 30 at 6:30 PM. The Kennedy Center's production of IN THE HEIGHTS concluded its run yesterday. Anthony Ramos, who originated the roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in the Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton, starred as Usnavi in the Broadway Center Stage production of In the Heights at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Presented as a part of the inaugural season of Broadway Center Stage, a Kennedy Center-produced series of musicals in semi-staged concerts, In the Heights ran March 21-25, 2018 in the Eisenhower Theater.

Lin-Manuel Miranda surprised the standing-room-only crowd at the Kennedy Center's Broadway Center Stage production of his Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights on Saturday night. He was joined in the audience byHamilton and In the Heights music director Alex Lacamoire, Hamilton and In the Heights percussionist Andres Forero, andHamilton and In the Heights star Javier Muñoz. At the end of the performance, Lacamoire led the on stage orchestra in the show's finale with Forero joining on percussion. Miranda then joined the cast for their final bow.

With the juggernaut that is Hamilton playing DC this summer, it was probably a good marketing strategy for the Kennedy Center to use its new Broadway Center Stage series to (re)-introduce local audiences to Lin-Manuel Miranda's first Broadway musical, the Tony Award-winning In the Heights. Avid local theatergoers have likely seen the show before and fairly recently at that. Last season, Olney Theater Center and Round House Theatre co-produced a well-received production and GALA Hispanic Theatre presented the U.S. Spanish language premiere. However, the five-night, sold out run at Kennedy Center offers another look at the show - this time with an Encores-like staging featuring some of Broadway's best talent directed by original cast member Stephanie Klemons.
