The creative team has been finalized and tickets are now on sale for the world premiere musical How to Dance in Ohio. The musical is scheduled as the 2022-23 season opener at Syracuse Stage this fall, and will run Sept. 21 – Oct. 9, 2022.
Last week, The National Symphony Orchestra presented the world premiere of Grammy award winning singer-songwriters Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear's The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical Live in Concert inspired by the Netflix series at the Kennedy Center. While the source material has its limitations, the Muny has staged an entertaining production with an adept company delivering exceptional performances. Jeanna de Waal is a proper Mary Poppins with perfect tone and an elegant voice. While Mary Poppins gets to fly, this production soars when Corbin Bleu (Bert) takes the stage. Mr. Bleu is establishing himself as a legitimate song and dance leading man. His dancing is electric. His energy and stage presence are infectious. Zoe Vonder Haar once again makes the most of every moment she has on stage. She disappears into her role as Mrs. Brill. Vonder Haar delivers a delightful performance. Her acting illustrates what it means to have true comedic timing. The remainder of the company is strong from top to bottom.

Syracuse Stage has announced casting for the world premiere of How to Dance in Ohio, a new musical inspired by Alexandra Shiva’s Peabody Award-winning documentary of the same name. How to Dance in Ohio’s fourteen-member cast includes Tony Award-winning RENT star Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Broadway veterans, and seven autistic actors. Learn all about the production here!

While the talent line-up for the show was incredible people with fabulous voices, Scott could very well have performed his show singing all by himself and it would have been a fine night of cabaret.

The Muny announced today that Jeanna de Waal, Corbin Bleu, Andréa Burns, Nehal Joshi, and Darlesia Cearcy will star in the high-flying production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins, July 5-13, 2022. A family favorite, Muny-goers will witness Mary flying over the audience. Mary Poppins is directed by John Tartaglia, choreographed by Patrick O’Neill, with music direction by Brad Haak. Mary Poppins is proudly sponsored by Ameren.
Due to technical issues, Westport Country Playhouse has cancelled the first preview performance of the pop/rock musical “Next to Normal” on Tuesday, April 5, and is rescheduling ticket holders into future performances of their choice. Previews will now begin on Wednesday, April 6 through Friday, April 8. Opening night will remain on Saturday, April 9. The production runs through Sunday, April 24.
