Sitting in the grand tradition of the ‘partner swap’ drama, 2015’s Four Play spoke to the LGBTQ+ community post-marriage equality, grappling with the desire to fit in in heteronormative suburbia versus the freedom to explore sexuality in a way that feels authentic. Now, in a new production directed by Jack Sain, the answers to the questions it poses seem more ambiguous than ever.

The eleven original songs are pleasant, reminiscent of pop / folk rock, and had my head nodding throughout. Equally as enjoyable to me as recent hits from Jason Robert Brown, Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, or Sara Bareilles. Another thing you should know is that fuzzy is not complicated or deeply thought provoking. “fuzzy is an invitation to sit with other people and remember together that it’s alright to feel things”. An air of breezy improvisation (spurred on by challenges from the audience –wordplay, free association and audience interaction are all involved) is on-hand in the District Fringe offering entitled Out of My Wheelhouse. Director and producer Nora Dell states that “this show pushes the boundaries between performance art, improv, sketch, and game show. More is more.” Indeed, this escapist show has many moments of mirth but at times it seems to be no more than a heightened game of charades for the audience to laugh at.
