The Broadway replica production of BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL, currently playing in Tuacahn’s indoor Hafen Theatre, is Broadway caliber—a moniker that should never be used lightly but in this case is wholly and completely warranted.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is filled with truly beautiful moments. The cast performs with such energy and heart that they bring the audience to their feet.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is both a fantastic showcase for the staggering amount of famous songs King and Goffin wrote together, and an interesting look into one of the aspects of the music industry that doesn’t get as much attention–the music factory of the Brill Building in New York. 

It’s officially summer stock season! Kicking off my favorite time of the year is Broadway at Music Circus’ production of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Its Broadway premiere in 2014 garnered seven Tony Award nominations, with two wins for Best Leading Actress and Best Sound Design. While I tend to have a healthy reservation of jukebox musicals, Beautiful puts that to rest with its strappy pace, feel-good music, and message of empowerment.

The Muny’s production of BEAUTIFUL is a nostalgic delight. They have taken one of the best jukebox musicals, adapted to The Muny stage and elevated it with a large cast of exceptional performers who deliver the songbooks of two prolific and competitive songwriting teams of the 1960’s, Carole King/Gerry Goffin and Cynthia Weil/Barry Mann. The vast Muny stage comes alive with high energy vocal performances, exceptional choreography and colorful vintage inspired costumes.

In celebration of 90 years of Theatre By The Sea, owner and producer Bill Hanney will present the Tony® and Grammy® Award-winning musical Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, which will be presented from June 14 – July 8, 2023.

Weil was prominently featured as a character in Beautiful: the Carole King Musical, alongside her husband and songwriting partner Barry Mann. The pair wrote several iconic songs, including “On Broadway,” “Make Your Own Kind of Music,” 'You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” “Walking in the Rain,” “You’re My Soul and Inspiration,” and more.
