Review: STINKY CHEESE MAN: AND OTHER FAIRLY STUPID TALES at DreamWrights
by Sandra Harberger
- Mar 26, 2023
The young ensemble cast at DreamWrights brought the book to life and made the packed audience of families laugh this weekend with their cast of colorful characters and animals. My own teenager loved this book as a child and giggled through out the performance! Stinky Cheese Man has lots of physical comedy that kids will laugh out loud at even if they don’t quite get the verbal humor of the parody yet. Sprinkled throughout the show is a few unique songs and even a puppet. Even the intermission was entertaining. Kids were getting their wiggles out dancing to music as the clocked counted down the minutes left before Act II.

The Fulton Theatre will close out the 2021/22 Season's Ellen Arnold Groff Studio Series with Five Guys Named Moe, a swinging musical tribute celebrating the exuberant sounds of rhythm and blues pioneer, Louis Jordan. The title song, Five Guys Named Moe, was written in 1942 and performed by Jordan and his Tympani Five. The Harlem Renaissance is alive and well with zoot suits, upright bass, swinging beats, and soulful jazz. BWW Review: Café Nordo's Spell Goes a Bit Awry in THE WITCHING HOUR
by Jay Irwin
- Sep 28, 2018
I'm certainly a fan of the creepy and the crawly and the things that go bump in the night which is one reason Halloween is my favorite holiday. So, a spooky Cafe Nordo show entitled "The Witching Hour" should be right up my alley. And while it is and there's still all the delicious food and fabulous music and fun one would expect from a Nordo show, the story felt a little tentative and unsure of itself and where it needed to go.

In a season that continues to top itself, one show after the other, Maine State Music Theatre's fourth and final main stage production of Disney's Newsies is an epic accomplishment for the company and one that firmly establishes it as one of the finest regional theatres in the country. As one of only three companies to get the regional rights to this mega Broadway hit, MSMT has mounted a thrilling, large scale production that is an electrifying, heart wrenching, and profoundly uplifting theatrical experience that will leave you in what Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark has called a state of “ecstatic exhaustion.”
