Maine State Music Theatre closes out its 2017 season with the New England Regional Premier of the all-singing, all-dancing, high-energy show, Disney's Newsies. Featuring a score by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, Newsies runs from August 9 - 26. A matinee performance has been added on August 19 at 2 PM.

Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged "newsies," who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. Inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week-long action against powerful newspaper publishers, this timely and fresh fictionalized adaptation addresses age-old themes of social injustice, exploitative labor practices, and David-versus-Goliath struggles as the young learn to harness their power against a corrupt establishment.

The production stars Matt Farcher as Jack Kelly, Kate Fahrner as Katherine, Blake Stadnik as Crutchie, Justin Schuman as Davey, Timothy Woodward, Jr. as Les, Brian Sutherland as Joseph Pulitzer, and Angela Grovey as Medda Larkin.

The cast is rounded out by the ensemble including Mark Aldrich, Glenn Anderson, Mike Baskowski, Billy Bateman, Joshua Bellamy, Bentley Black, Adopho Blaire, Michael Carrier, Tony Lawson, Marty Lauter, Brian Liebson, Elliot Marach, Mathew Marvin, Mateo Melendez, Kevin Murakami, Kevin Murray, Gerianne Pérez, John Pletka, Kyle Samuel, Cody Smith, Ross Thompson, Lilly Tobin, Mickey White, and Daniel Yearwood.

All of MSMT's performances take place at the Pickard Theater on the campus of Bowdoin College located at 1 Bath Road in Brunswick. For more information, and to buy tickets, visit www.msmt.org or call the Box Office at (207) 725-8769.
