Randy Rainbow to Appear Live at Charline McCombs Empire Theatre

Comedian, singer, actor, writer and satirist Randy Rainbow announced today the extension of his 2019 sold-out tour, including a stop at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre (226 N. St. Mary's St.) in San Antonio, TX on October 25, 2019 at 7:30PM. Tickets go on sale this Friday, May 17 at 10AM.

Former Paul Taylor Dance Company Member Cathy McCann has been named Director of Taylor 2 Dance Company (Taylor 2) by Artistic Director Michael Novak effective May 20, 2019. Ms. McCann was hired after current Taylor 2 Rehearsal Director Ruth Andrien announced that she was stepping down from the role after nine years.

Climate Change Play CONTINUITY Begins Performances At Manhattan Theatre Club On May 8

Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere of Continuity, the new play by Lortel and Drama Desk Award nominee Bess Wohl (Small Mouth Sounds, American Hero) and directed by Tony Award nominee Rachel Chavkin (Hadestown; Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812), begins performances tomorrow at The Studio at Stage II - Harold and Mimi Steinberg New Play Series at New York City Center (131 W. 55th Street). Opening night is set for Tuesday, May 21.

New Chamber Ballet Presents Magloire, Baecher, Isaac, And Lamb

Miro Magloire's New Chamber Ballet will close its 2018-19 season with programs of ballets by Magloire, a world premiere by resident choreographer Constantine Baecher (Friday only), 'Full Circles' by guest choreographer Gabrielle Lamb, and the world premiere of a work by guest choreographer Richard Isaac. Two performances, Friday June 7 at 8 PM and Saturday June 8 at 7:30 PM in the Company's home base of City Center Studio 5, 130 West 56th Street.

The line between Broadway-type musical theatre and opera becomes finer by the year--though I dare say that TOOTSIE is unlikely to be showing up at the Met any time soon. But the Kurt Weill-Ira Gershwin-Moss Hart LADY IN THE DARK might have morphed in a slightly different, better piece of music theatre if it arrived in the 21st century rather than World War II.
