HB Studio, one of New York's most venerable institutions for theater training and practice, is shaking things up this year for their annual benefit. This year HB Studio is bringing attention back to its roots, and back to the process of making great theater. Instead of one big benefit bash honoring esteemed alumni and colleagues (such as Fritz Weaver, Austin Pendleton, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, Eric Bentley and David Hyde Pierce, Amanda Peet and Lee Grant, Tony Walton and Katie Finneran, Alfred Molina), HB will be hosting a series of intimate benefit performances featuring notable HB alumni and friends, exclusively produced in the HB Playwrights Theater. The winners of the First Annual Berkshire Theatre Awards have been announced. Seventeen arts journalists voted on 120 nominees in 25 categories chosen from artists in the 75 live theatre productions mounted in Berkshire County and adjacent areas between October 1, 2015 and September 30, 2016.

With 75 stage productions employing hundreds of professionals, making theatre is an important cog in the area's cultural economy. Obie Award-winner Trip Cullman directs the play, which won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1951. In addition to Marisa Tomei who stars as the grieving widow Serafina and Christopher Abbott as the hot-blooded trucker Alvaro, Rosenblat will be joining her 'Orange Is the New Black' costar Constance Shulman. Rosenblat received international recognition for her portrayal of cancer-stricken inmate Miss Rosa, while Shulman plays Yoga Jones on that popular Netflix program.

Signature Theatre just announced one additional, final performance for their critically acclaimed production of JOHN, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Annie Baker (The Flick) and directed by Tony Award-winner Sam Gold (Fun Home). The production, which kicked off Signature's 25th Anniversary Season, will now play its final performance on Sunday, September 6th at 7:30pm. All other performances are sold out.
