Baltimore Center Stage is pleased to announce an exhilarating season of Mainstage plays to mark the debut programming under Artistic Director Stephanie Ybarra. Thursday's FRIDAY 5 (+1): The Larry Keeton Theatre's SISTER ACT Opens Tonight

With the excitement of opening night and the histrionics of tech week to fuel them, Kristina Nichole James (who plays Deloris) and her castmates Susan Walsworth and Stephanie Hale Williams managed to find time in their hectic schedules to answer our questions and to offer some background information on themselves - along with some compelling reasons you should make your reservations for the show - in today's version of the Friday 5 (+1)...

Review: LINDA VISTA Offers a Comically Unsettling Look at the Contemporary Dating Scene

Now being presented by Center Theatre Group at the Mark Taper Forum, directed by Dexter Bullard who also helmed the Steppenwolf production, LINDA VISTA features actor Ian Barford who has originated four roles in Letts' canon of plays, and has remained friends with the playwright for 30 years. But no doubt Letts' very contemporary and biting social commentary on the immaturity of men when it comes to dealing with women and adult life will no doubt upset many in the audience when it becomes apparent Wheeler will never be ready to grow up. After all, it seems the older he gets, the younger he wants to become even when his body won't go along with the idea. It's comically unsettling and all too real when it comes to the contemporary dating scene.

BWW Review: IF SAND WERE STONE Centers on Alzheimer's Disease

At the 2018 New York Musical Festival, the show IF SAND WERE STONE tackled the difficult subject of early onset Alzheimer's Disease. With music by Cassie Willson, and book and lyrics by Carly Brooke Feinman, the show was quite stylized and sometimes confusing.

Unicorn Theatre Presents VIETGONE

Award-winning pioneer playwright Qui Nguyen brilliantly chronicles the love story of his parents' meeting in an Arkansas refugee center after fleeing Vietnam after the fall of Saigon in 1975. It's a buddy story, an all-American romance, and a motorcycle road-trip adventure that reexamines how we think about the heroes and victims of the Vietnam War. Vietgone skips through time and roams the globe with snarky humor, hip-hop, and lots of sex. It's one ironic, foul-mouthed, bad-ass new play.

BWW Interview: TIM MACKABEE Designs the set for SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE at Baltimore Center Stage

I first recall watching Tim Mackabee play a policeman in the musical GUYS AND DOLLS while he was in high school in Towson, MD at the Carver Center for the Arts and Technology. I next met him outside the Yale Repertory Theatre where he was studying for his Master's Degree in Set Design. I've been following him ever since as he has risen to be one the most successful set designers in the country. He even made it to Broadway and London where he designed THE ELEPHANT MAN. His work is now ensconced at Baltimore's Center Stage where you can see his masterful job designing the set for SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE (which is a co-production with the Cincinnati Playhouse). I was able to see the show in a preview performance (it opens officially October 26, 2017) and marveled at his work. I caught up with him during tech rehearsals in Baltimore just before he had to leave for Philadelphia.
