Garry Marshall Theatre presents the 4th Annual New Works Festival featuring virtual presentations of the five finalists selected this year. September 24-26 is the virtual festival, presented via livestream on Garry Marshall Theatre YouTube. 

The Contemporary American Theater Festival has been a beacon for new plays since 1991. Housed on the campus of Shepherd University, CATF has earned a reputation as one of the country's top festivals for new plays. Producing Director Ed Herendeen, who founded the professional theater and lead the organization to its well-respected status, announced his retirement effective this December.  

Teatro Paraguas will present 26 Miles, a play by Quiara Alegria Hides about an estranged Latina mother and her White Jewish teenage daughter who find themselves on a spontaneous road trip to discover one another — and see the buffalo in Yellowstone.

The festival will consist of works from Victor Lesniewski, Chisa Hutchinson, Jacqueline Goldfinger, Caridad Svich, Terence Anthony, and Kevin Artigue.

Recent signings include Robert O'Hara and four of his new plays, ZOMBIE: THE AMERICAN, BARBECUE, ANTEBELLUM and MANKIND,  Ken Levine (M*A*S*H, Cheers, Frasier, The Simpsons) with AMERICA'S SEXIEST COUPLE and ON THE FARCE DAY OF CHRISTMAS,  and Stan Zimmerman (Golden Girls, Gilmore Girls, Roseanne, The Brady Bunch Movies) with YES, VIRGINIA and RIGHT BEFORE I GO.

In an unprecedented opportunity, audiences can experience Goodman Theatre productions in three ways in just one week—one in-person, when the theater reopens this Friday, one online and one in Chicago parks this summer. 

Pickering, is a British, actress and writer. She began writing for theatre in 2018, at Primitive Grace Theatre Ensemble, with artistic directors Paul Calderon and David Zayas, also co-founding members of New York LAByrinth Theatre. In 2020, Pickering was accepted as a member of The League of Professional Theatre Women, as well as The International Centre of Female Playwrights.

Teatro Paraguas will present a video performance of The Book of Magdalene, a play by Caridad Svich for two in-person screenings at Teatro Paraguas.  The play, filmed in Teatro Paraguas in June and directed by Juliet Salazar, features Alix Hudson as Magdalene, a young woman in a twilight— possibly apocalyptic— world.

The first annual Seacoast Summer Reading Sessions comes to The Rochester Opera House's Historic Theater in Rochester, NH with satellite locations for writing workshops at  The Mark Baum Estate and an added reading and workshop at Wells Reserve at Laudholm.

Repertorio Español has announced the dates for their official reopening. Performances start on the 6th of October.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival has announced the month-long, five-play O! Reading Series. For this new initiative, five directors who are part of OSF’s artistic staff have each chosen a play to be performed as a live digital staged reading by some of OSF’s favorite actors.

Award-winning theatre company Son of Semele Ensemble is announcing its departure from their Silver Lake home of 18 years. Led by Founding Artistic Director Matthew McCray since 2000, the company has been in residence at 3301 Beverly Boulevard in a black box theatre they created in 2003. 

INTAR THEATER announced today INTAR’S MicroTEATRO Festival performed on the streets of Hell’s Kitchen starting on June 17, 2021. MicroTEATRO refers to a collection of small format plays surrounding the same themes (or not) presented at the same time for a rotating audience.

With a mission to create, produce, and promote extraordinary theatre by women and all under-represented genders, WTF has produced 24 mainstage shows, 43 Fringe-style productions, and over 125 staged readings.

The Marsh partners with Remote Studios will present a reading of Caridad Svich's new drama, The Book of Magdalene, as part of a newly launched month web show of readings on its digital platform, MarshStream.

The 24 Hour Plays has announced a special Cincinnati edition round of The 24 Hour Plays: Viral Monologues, which they will host in partnership with the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, and featuring brand-new monologues written, rehearsed and recorded in 24 hours by 12 actors and playwrights.  

Theater in Quarantine, a pandemic performance laboratory from writer, director, and performer Joshua William Gelb and choreographer Katie Rose McLaughlin, announces a new series of live-streamed performances, running May 20 - June 21, that push the boundaries of live performance inside the digital space.
