2019 Year In Review: Fiona Scott's Best Of Theatre

In 2019, I reviewed 30 shows for BroadwayWorld, but I actually wrote more interviews - around 50 articles on my count. Here's my attempt to pick out some highlights alongside the other pieces of theatre I saw this year.

Alison Fraser, Lou Liberatore and More Join the Cast PARADISE LOST

Fellowship for Performing Arts announced today complete casting for the New York premiere of PARADISE LOST, written by award-winning playwright Tom Dulack (Incommunicado, Kennedy Center Prize for New American Drama; Road to Damascus) and directed by Michael Parva (Irena's Vow, Martin Luther on Trial). Performances begin on Wednesday, January 15, with opening night set for Wednesday, January 22, at Theatre Three at Theatre Row (410 W. 42nd Street, New York, NY 10036) for a run through Sunday, February 23, 2020. THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE Will Embark On UK Tour In 2020

Sally Cookson's highly acclaimed stage production of C.S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe, which is currently playing to packed houses at the Bridge Theatre in London, and broke box office records when it premiered at Leeds Playhouse in 2017, will begin a major tour of the UK and Ireland at the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury on 20 November 2020. It then travels to Cardiff, Salford, Dublin, Edinburgh, Canterbury, Glasgow and finally Nottingham in March 2021.

AN EVENING WITH C.S. LEWIS Comes to Aronoff Center

Acclaimed actor David Payne stars in An Evening with C.S. Lewis: My Life's Journey at the Aronoff Center's intimate Jarson-Kaplan Theater for four performances only: Friday, February 28 at 7:30 PM; Saturday, February 29 at 4:00 PM and 7:30 PM; and March 1 at 2:00 PM. The one-man show is produced by Emery Entertainment, Inc. and is a part of the Cincinnati Arts Association's 2019-20 Season.

BWW Review: Alberta Theatre Projects Brings THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE to Life

Under direction by Artistic Director Darcy Evans, the story follows four children as they travel through a wardrobe to the land of Narnia where an eternal winter has been sent by the White Witch, but rumors of a prophecy and the return of the King: Aslan, the Lion, send them on an adventure to save everyone. Set in two acts, the show is filled with plenty of action, magic, and words of wisdom a?" mostly delivered by the two-man puppet Aslan.

BWW Review: THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE at Gamut Theatre Group

The production really comes together as a whole-from the lights to the sound to the costumes to the set and even the set changes, everything has been carefully designed and choreographed to give the audience the sense of wonder and magic that should accompany any telling of Narnia.

Fellowship for Performing Arts Has Announced World Premiere of PARADISE LOST and Full 2019-20 Season

Fellowship for Performing Arts announced today its productions for late 2019 and early 2020, marking the company's fifth full season in New York. The season will be headlined by a new work, PARADISE LOST by Tom Dulack and inspired by the classic John Milton epic poem. The season also features the return of FPA's C.S. LEWIS' THE GREAT DIVORCE. NARNIA Comes To Serenbe Playhouse This Holiday Season

NARNIA at Serenbe Playhouse, an immersive dramatization based on The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, tells of four English schoolchildren in the time of World War II who stumble upon a wardrobe which they discover to be a portal into a magical kingdom of called Narnia. A kingdom that is held in the power of the White Witch whose evil spell has frozen the land so that it is a?oealways winter a?" and never Christmas.a??  On the journey, the children are embraced by mystical animals and the good Narnians who resist the Witch's evil and await the return of Aslan a?" the Great Lion, who is their rightful ruler. 

BWW Review: AN EVENING WITH C.S. LEWIS at Broadway Playhouse

In Broadway in Chicago and Emery Entertainment's AN EVENING WITH C.S. LEWIS, we encounter the famed author of THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA in the cozy setting of his home in a village outside Oxford. David Payne writes, directs, and stars as Lewis, or a?oeJacka?? to his family, in this one-man show. Under the premise that the audience is a group of American writers visiting Lewis, Payne reclines in an armchair, sips tea, and regales his guests with tales of Jack's childhood, literary career, and late-in-life romance.
