The Gotham Film and Media Institute announced today the public programming for the 2021 Gotham Week Conference, taking place virtually Sunday, September 19th – Friday, September 24th.

The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre is preparing for a heartwarming romantic comedy this fall when its production of the Broadway classic The Pajama Game takes to the stage.  Opening Friday, September 10th, the production was rescheduled from earlier this season.

After a highly successful performance run in 2019, Bright Star returns to The Firehouse Theatre this September as a concert production! Bright Star features over 20 beautiful songs and tells a beguiling tale that unfolds in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina between 1923 and 1945. Billy Cane, a young soldier just home from World War II, meets Alice Murphy, the brilliant editor of a southern literary journal.

Acclaimed Australian actor Hugo Weaving joins a diverse cast of established performers and rising stars including Bojana Novakovic (I, Tonya, Birds of Prey, Instinct, Shameless, Satisfaction), Bob Morley (The 100), Heather Mitchell (Muriel's Wedding, Rogue, The Great Gatsby), Sarah Peirse (The Hobbit, Stateless), Celia Pacquola (Rosehaven, The Beautiful Lie), William Lodder (Wakefield), Shalom Brune-Franklin (Line of Duty) and Mitzi Ruhlmann (The Code).

The fundraiser THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC! is an evening of songs under the stars directed and hosted by Bruce Kimmel, with musical direction by Richard Allen, produced by Kathleen Delaney for the Group Rep, will take place Monday, August 23rd at 8:00 pm and Tuesday, August 24th at 8:00 pm with a dessert buffet to follow catered by Great Grapes.

Festivities in Vernon Park begin at 5:30pm each evening with a fair including interactive art installations, games, resource tables, a mutual aid station, reunion photo booth, drumming, and more. The evening culminates with an original 30-minute play at 7pm that refracts Shakespeare's PERICLES through a poetic story which centers Black Germantown and the community's fight against gentrification. This event is free and open to the public. 

Feinstein’s/54 Below announced today that the next two artists in its streaming series will be two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz and Broadway favorite Jay Armstrong Johnson. Norbert Leo Butz Sings Torch Songs For A Pandemic will stream live on August 21 at 7:00 PM ET, and Jay Armstrong Johnson will follow on September 1 at 9:45 PM ET.

Directed by Aron Johnson, who contributed visual effects to the Sarah Sitkin-directed music video for the album version of “True,” the piece features warped imagery and retro VHS aesthetics that capture the song’s intensity.

Desert TheatreWorks (DTW) has announced its 2021-2022 season and invites interested actors, singers and dancers to audition.  There will be four musicals (two of which will feature live bands) and three plays. Artistic Director Lance Phillips has chosen programs that he describes as “upbeat, fun, and an escape to a happy place.”
