The University Singers, the University of Virginia's flagship choral ensemble, will be on tour this May 2019 appearing across the Northeastern U.S. and Canada.
Kevin Black, one of South Florida's best-known producer/director/choreographers, is once again collaborating with award-winning vocalist Mimi J to create a concert program that will appeal to audiences of all ages. The two have worked together several times developing shows that achieved great success - most notably On the Radio: Sounds of the 70s, which debuted at Stage Door Theatre in 2014, and eventually morphed into I Will Survive. That show went on to play several other area venues.
Deborah Grace Winer continues her monthly love affair with New York when her acclaimed musical revue 'NEW YORK: BIG CITY SONGBOOK' returns to Birdland Theatre on Sunday, April 14 at 7:30 pm featuring Klea Blackhurst, LaTanya Hall and Nick Ziobro with Joe Davidian on piano and Jay Leonhart on bass and vocals. Santa Cruz County Actors' Theatre continues its 2019 season with the full-length staged production of Jane Anderson's LOOKING FOR NORMAL, directed by Tandy Beal. The play opens April 12 and runs through April 28 at the Center Stage Theater in downtown Santa Cruz.
The Bay Area's favorite Clown Prince of Fools, Unique Derique, returns to The Marsh Berkeley in his zany comedy extravaganza for all ages, Fool La La: Over the Rainbow. This hippity-hop, non-stop flight of fancy features circus-inspired tricks, playful percussion and electronic body music in a whimsical celebration of individuality with new surprises on the journey to discovering one's inner rainbow. After the show, audiences can express themselves the Fool La La way - by getting into the act and joining Unique Derique in a free 20-minute juggling and hambone workshop for the whole family.
The Guelph Chamber Choir is part-way through a search process for a new permanent Conductor and Artistic Director. Two guest conductors will each have selected, rehearsed and presented a full concert with the choir before a final decision is made. Last fall, Patrick Murray conducted a concert entitled Haven: music of protection and peace. Coming up this month, conductor Charlene Pauls presents Glory: music of light and joy on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 7:30 pm at St. George's Anglican Church.

The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia presents the dazzling multimedia work No Blue Memories: The Life of Gwendolyn Brooks on February 24, 2019, at 7pm in the Chan Shun Concert Hall as part of the Beyond Words series. The late poet was a radical and disruptive presence within the national literary scene, becoming the first African-American to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1950. In this ambitious creation, innovative art-collective Manual Cinema collaborates with Chicago-based poets Eve L. Ewing and Nate Marshall to craft an inspiring biographical narrative, featuring a live six-piece band and original score by Jamila Woods and Ayanna Woods.
The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia presents the inimitable, genre-defiant music of Bobby McFerrin on February 17, 2019, at 7pm in the Chan Shun Concert Hall. The concert will feature Gimme5 - McFerrin's newest band comprised of veterans from his a cappella Voicestra group Joey Blake, Dave Worm, Rhiannon, and Judi Vinar - and local choral ensemble musica intima. The program will be based on Circlesinging, a musical practice and philosophy that McFerrin has been honing since he began as a solo a cappella performer, assigning vocal parts to his onstage collaborators and audience members - transforming sold-out houses into glorious impromptu choirs.

Deborah is well known to New Yorkers for the imaginative and quality presentations she produced for the Lyrics & Lyricists Series at the 92Y, which she led for 9 seasons. It's difficult to construct a show for New Yorkers about New York, we've seen it all…haven't we? but this smart show with vocalists Klea Blackhurst, La Tanya Hall and Nicolas King (real New Yorkers because as Deborah pointed out they come from everywhere) offered a kaleidoscopic vision of life in the city.
