Splice the mainbrace, pull up the anchor and set sail with the Birmingham Hippodrome team as we head across the city to The Firs Primary School to recruit a ship-shape crew of young pirates in order to celebrate International Talk like a Pirate Day 2012.

Equipped with Robinson Crusoe & the Caribbean Pirates eye patches and skull and crossbones flags, children aged 6-11 years old from the Castle Bromwich based Primary School will be working alongside ‘professional’ pirates of the open seas in a morning of workshops on how to walk, talk and act like a pirate.

The children of The Firs will also be donning their most impressive pirate gear in a non-uniform day to celebrate the occasion ahead of their trip to Britain’s biggest Pantomime, Robinson Crusoe & the Caribbean Pirates next January.

Teacher Claire Skeltcher said: “We are so lucky to have Birmingham Hippodrome working with us. The children are really looking forward to dressing up as pirates, learning new songs and learning how to talk and act like pirates.”

Rachel Sharpe, Birmingham Hippodrome Education & Audience Development Officer added: “We can’t wait to spend this extraordinary day of fun with The Firs, continuing our long-standing working relationship with the school and adding to Birmingham Hippodrome’s work in Education alongside Britain’s biggest pantomime, Robinson Crusoe.”

2012 marks the 10th anniversary of International Talk like a Pirate Day, a small phenomenon that began with two regular American’s and has now spread to a worldwide celebration. More info can be found at www.talklikeapirate.com.
