Harlem Stage today announced that multidisciplinary artist Carl Hancock Rux has joined the organization in a newly created role as associate artistic director/curator-in-residence. The hire is a major component of Harlem Stage’s plan to strengthen and nurture leadership roles and employment opportunities for artists of color.

“Singing has always been the best part of living for me,” Billie Holiday tells the audience in North Carolina Theatre’s new production of LADY DAY AT EMERSON’S BAR AND GRILL. Angela Robinson plays singer Billie Holiday and Nygel Robsinon plays her pianist Jimmy Powers at NCT, under the direction of Jarvis Green.

The four-part series stars Candy Queen Jackie Sorkin and her team of talented candy artists: Chris Fernandez, Genevieve Chan, Amanda Touch, D. Micah Lindsey, Basia Whitely, Caroline Habash, and Mandy Bui. 

Jarvis Green is the director and music director of North Carolina Theatre’s Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill. This play with music explores events in the life of American singer Billie Holiday. Jarvis is the Founding Artistic Director of JAG Productions.

Broadway and TV Star, Tonya Pinkins, sings a new jazz ballad that was released today, Thursday, 10-14, on George Floyd’s birthday, to honor his memory. The song is called  “Strange Fruit, Revisited”. It is inspired by both the current racial inequities and the  Billie Holiday classic.
