Manca poco meno di un mese all'evento teatrale piu atteso da tutta la comunita teatrale di tutto il mondo: il 9 giugno infatti, al Radio City Music Hall di New York, si svolgera la 73esima edizione dei Tony Awards. Per la seconda volta, James Corden sara il presentatore di questa serata, dopo aver ricevuto un Emmy Award per la sua performance nel 2016. Il 30 aprile, Bebe Neuwirth e Brandon Victor Dixon hanno annunciato i nomi delle opere teatrali (play e musical) in diretta streaming.

Ticket proceeds will go directly to Ms. Hollinbeck, a two-time breast cancer survivor, to offset her recent medical costs and assist on her valiant road to recovery. The League of Professional Theatre Women, an organization which has been leading the gender parity conversation and championing women in the professional theatre for over 35 years, presented an Oral History Project event with six-time Emmy and Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh on Monday, May 6 at the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (111 Amsterdam Avenue at 65th Street). Ms. Feldshuh discussed her life and prolific career with award-winning drama critic Linda Winer.
Philadelphia Theatre Company kicks off the 2019-2020 season with a bang. For the company's 45th season, Producing Artistic Director Paige Price and Managing Director Emily Zeck are excited to welcome two-time Tony and Emmy Award winner Bebe Neuwirth to star in their season opener, the Philadelphia premiere of Adam Bock's raucous, funny and unexpectedly touching A Small Fire. The play is set to run October 18-November 10, with Opening Night on October 23. The company also announced that Sarna Lapine will make her local directing debut. Clubbed Thumb held their gala earlier this week, honoring playwrights Heidi Schreck (What the Constitution Means to Me), Jaclyn Backhaus (Men on Boats), and Sarah DeLappe (The Wolves) and their feminist disruption of the American theatre. Special guests for the evening included Tatiana Maslany, Lila Neugebauer, Grace Gummer, Pam MacKinnon and Anne Kauffman, among others.
Today Daniel Krane, artistic director of Princeton Summer Theater, announced the organization's 2019 season, which will run from June 20-August 18 and consist of four mainstage productions, as well as the world premiere of a new children's play.

The 120 minute tribute celebration begins with Phyllis Hyman's Disco Hit produced by New York's Own James Mtume 'You Know How To Love Me,' to Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Ladies Medley-Sophisticated Ladies, A Train, It Don't Mean A Thing, In A Sentimental Mood" to her pivotal vocal performance in Brooklyn's own Spike Lee's "School Daze" singing "Be One" to her recording career beginning with Veteran Producer Norman Connors singing "Betcha By Golly Wow" to her favorite songs "What You Won't Do For Love," to "Old Friend" a song she would dedicate to her numerous dear friends who died of AIDS in the late 1980's and early 1990's.
Like the rest of you, I've spent this week obsessing over 'Fosse Verdon' on FX and especially Gwen Verdon, played brilliantly on the series by Michelle Williams, in a performance that makes you want to reinvestigate what made Gwen so great. Sweet Charity is the perfect place to start. Gwen became a star and won her first Tony in a featured role in Can Can and she gained worldwide acclaim (and number 2 in a total of four Tonys) as Lola in Damn Yankees on stage and screen and of course there were many other shows and movies and TV appearances, but Sweet Charity was the show Bob Fosse (and Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields and Neil Simon) created just for her. She may have lost the Tony to Angela Lansbury in Mame, but Gwen got that iconic poster and all those songs.
