This is the first time I can remember something rotten being so enjoyable. SOMETHING ROTTEN! the musical directed by Tim Bair opened on Saturday night November 6 at the White Theatre at the J in Overland Park, KS. If you miss your chance to see this musical comedy, that would be SOMETHING ROTTEN! The show runs through November 21.

The season has been made more extraordinary this year with the opening of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW at The Black Box, in the historic West Bottoms of Kansas City, MO. Having missed the 2020 season due to the pandemic Padgett Productions has renewed, to the delight of a large audience, THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW. How good is the show? The best answer I can give is I’ve done something I seldom do, bought tickets to see it again before it closes.

They of course in turn gave birth to what is known as Generation X bringing a new age emergence of punk rock, grunge, and apparently both awesome and tasty cocktails. Generation X gave us millennials.

Directed by Julie Ewing, with music direction by Ashley Jones, and choreography by Carolyn Braverman this phenomenal production is anything but community theater. Who would ever think community theater could be so good? BRIGHT STAR is of a quality that any professional theater would be delighted to attain.

Olathe Civic Theatre Association (OCTA) begins 2018 with the award-winning musical Violet, an inspiring story of a girl with a disfiguring scar who sets out on a journey to seek healing and finds her true beauty along the way. With book and lyrics by Brian Crawley, music by Jeanine Tesori, and a story based on 'The Ugliest Pilgrim' by Doris Betts, this production is helmed by local theatre veterans Julie Ewing (director) and Kevin Bogan (music director). Violet runs three weekends February 9-25, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm.
