Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” the award-winning worldwide smash hit Broadway musical, continues Moonlight Stage Productions’ 40th anniversary summer season with performances scheduled July 21 through August 7 at 8 p.m. at the Moonlight Amphitheatre.
This Spotlight focuses on Kelly Brighton, an Actor, Singer, Composer/Lyricist, Producer/Arranger and Writer who has appeared in theatrical productions his entire life. As a member of DOMA Theatre, Kelly has received accolades for his roles in several company productions. He is also preparing to take a new musical he has written to the stage, and as a Recording Artist works with some of the finest producers and recording engineers in Hollywood. The hilarious angel doo-wop quartet of Frankie, Sparky, Jinx and Smudge (Craig Sherman, Philip McBride, Augusto Guardado and Andrew Allen) again return to Earth to get a second chance at 'making it big' after missing out on the opportunity when a freak accident caused their demise on the night of February 9, 1964 while the Beatles appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. Much like the much-loved musical "Fiddler on the Roof," IN THE HEIGHTS focuses on family love and traditions being challenged by the beliefs of the next generation. In our modern world where a good education can make all the difference, what does it take for a poor family to put a cherished only child through an expensive university? And what happens when the student cannot keep up and drops out and gets romantically involved with someone her parents don't think is good enough? And what happens when a neighborhood is challenged by urban renewal and its flavor is about to be lost? Can it be saved when local shop owners must leave their beloved neighborhood when rents rise?
In celebration of their 20th Anniversary Season, the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center brings back the classic musical Fiddler on the Roof from September 12 - October 18, 2015. With performances on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm as well as Thursdays at 8 pm on October 8 and 15, Fiddler on the Roof will make a third run at the Cultural Arts Center, having previously played in May of 2004 and September of 2006.
The beauty of this revue is that it can be done in whatever style chosen by the director, either as just a collection of show tunes or songs interconnected to tell a story of how love makes the world go 'round. The current production at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, directed by Fred Helsel with musical direction by Gary Poirot and choreography by Becky Castells, does a bit of both by interconnecting the songs so they flow from one to the other ss if we are hearing both sides of each love story.
