5-STAR THEATRICALS opens its 2018-2019 season with the Thousand Oaks premiere of SHREK THE MUSICAL, with music by Jeanine Tesori, book & lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, musical direction by Dan Redfeld, choreography by Karl Warden and will be directed by Kirsten Chandler. SHREK THE MUSICAL opens on Friday, October 19, 2018 and runs through Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the 1,800-seat Kavli Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks.

The Tony Award-winning musical based on the 2001 Dreamworks film, SHREK THE MUSICAL, is coming to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza stage for the first time ever... after! With animated songs by Jeanine Tesori and comical lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, your fairy tales will be coming true at 5-Star Theatricals - and just in time for Halloween, so have your kids come in their costume to receive a SHREK "Trick or Treat" goodie bag and also to have a chance to Dance onstage LIVE with SHREK and the cast!

"I could not be more delighted than to begin our first season in my role as Artistic Director with a show that is as funny and joyous as SHREK THE MUSICAL," says 5-Star Theatricals Artistic Director, Patrick Cassidy. "Come see all your favorites, Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and Farquaad and have the kids come to the show dressed in their Halloween costumes to get a very special SHREK trick or treat goodie bag and a chance to appear live on our stage to dance with the cast!"

ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAM AND CAST

KIRSTEN CHANDLER (Director) has served at the helm as director & choreographer of many recent and critically acclaimed productions, including San Diego Musical Theatre's South Pacific, Panic Productions' Inspecting Carol, Cabrillo Music Theatre's Damn Yankees andYou're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Musical Theatre Guild'sSugar, Triumph of Love, Chess,Little Women, and Bat Boy, CSUN's Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, and AMDA's Spring Awakening. Kirsten is a proud member of the faculty at AMDA Los Angeles, an even prouder wife to Stan, and proudest mom to two amazing boys, Addie and Tucker.

Karl Warden (Choreography) was responsible for your clown nightmares as he choreographed the "American Horror Story: CULT" promos winning top honors at the BDA Awards. He directed and choreographed SoundStage Live's The Little Mermaid. Currently his choreography can be seen in Mamma Mia at the Welk Resort Theatre where he also choreographed A Christmas Carol and Meet Me In St. Louis. SD Area theatre: Newsies, The Addams Family, Big Fish, The Little Mermaid and Catch Me If You Can (Craig Noel award winner) at Moonlight Amphitheater. La Cage Aux Folles at SDMT. He has spent 8 summers with the Musical Theatre Lab at Vineyard Arts Project. TV/Film: "American Crime Story: Versace" promos, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia". Karl served as the Associate Director/Choreographer to Patti Colombo for the McCoy/Rigby, Sacramento Music Circus, Seattle 5th Avenue Theatre, MSMT, and UK Tour of Seven Brides For Seven Brothers.

Dan Redfeld (Musical Director) The Who's Tommy (Alice Ripley), Chess (Susan Egan/Matt Morrison), My Fair Lady (Jonathan Pryce), Disney's Beauty & The Beast and Hunchback of Notre Dame, Peter Pan, Evita, The Secret Garden, etc. as well as conductor for LA Opera's Educom. Composer: A Hopeful Place (Navona Records). Arioso for Oboe, Percussion & Strings (Santa Barbara Symphony premiere), January 15, 1947 for Solo Harp, Fantasy for Violin & Piano, Travels for Piano Quartet and Dance Sketches. Film scores inlcude the award-winning "Clinic E"and film noir "Moustache."Orchestrations:Beaches,A Christmas Story (nat. tour), Broadway Medley for the Music Center's 50th, Center Theatre Group's 50th Anniversary, plus arrangements for various orchestras.Albums include: Across the Stars: The Film Music of John Williams, Braveheart: The Film Music of James Horner and Titanic: An Epic Musical Voyage, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster and the re-release of James Cameron's film. Alumnus of New England Conservatory and UCLA.

Jeanine Tesori (Music) won the Tony Award for Best Original Score with Lisa Kron for the musical Fun Home. She has also written Tony-nominated scores for Twelfth Night at Lincoln Center; Thoroughly Modern Millie (lyrics, Dick Scanlan); Caroline, or Change (lyrics, Tony Kushner); and Shrek The Musical (lyrics, David Lindsay-Abaire). The production of Caroline, or Change at the National Theatre in London received the Olivier Award for Best New Musical. Her 1997 Off-Broadway musical Violet (lyrics, Brian Crawley) opened on Broadway in 2014 and garnered four Tony nominations, including Best Musical Revival. Opera: A Blizzard on Marblehead Neck (libretto, Tony Kushner; Glimmerglass) and The Lion, The Unicorn, and Me (libretto, J. D. McClatchy, Kennedy Center). Music for plays: Mother Courage (dir. George C. Wolfe, with Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline), John Guare's A Free Man of Color (Lincoln Center Theater, dir. George C. Wolfe), and Romeo and Juliet (Delacorte Gala). Film scores: Nights in Rodanthe, Every Day, and You're Not You. Ms. Tesori is a member of the Dramatists Guild and was cited by the ASCAP as the first female composer to have two new musicals running concurrently on Broadway. She is the founding artistic director of Encores! Off-Center at New York City Center, and is a lecturer in music at Yale University.

David Lindsay-Abaire (Book & Lyrics) is a Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, screenwriter, lyricist and librettist. His most recent play, Ripcord, opens this fall at Manhattan Theatre Club. His previous play Good People premiered on Broadway, was awarded the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play, The Horton Foote Prize, The Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award, and two Tony nominations. His play Rabbit Hole received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, five Tony nominations, and the Spirit of America Award. David also wrote the book and lyrics for Shrek the Musical, which was nominated for eight Tonys, four Oliviers, a Grammy, and earned David the Ed Kleban Award as America's most promising musical theatre lyricist. David's other plays include Fuddy Meers, Kimberly Akimbo, Wonder of the World and A Devil Inside, among others. In addition to his work in theatre, David's screen credits include his film adaptation of Rabbit Hole, Dreamworks' Rise of the Guardians, and the upcoming Family Fang, starring Nicole Kidman, Christopher Walken and Jason Bateman.

The Cast for SHREK THE MUSICAL features Trent Mills as Shrek, Alison Woods as Fiona, Marc Baron Ginsburg as Farquaad, Lawrence Cummings as Donkey, Kyle Frattini as Pinocchio, Deanna Anthony as the Dragon, Zachary Thompson as Young Shrek, Bayley Tanenbaum as Young Fiona and Kate Godfrey as Teen Fiona and the ensemble features (in alphabetical order): Matthew Christopher Thompson, Gabrielle Farrow, Dominic Franco, Kevin Gilmond, Isaiah Griffith, Augusto Guardado, Mitchell Johnson, Drew Lake, Colden Lamb, Natalie Miller, Kat Monzon and Alexa Vellanoweth.

The Design Team of SHREK THE MUSICAL will feature: Lighting Design by Jose Santiago, Sound Design by Jonathan Burke, Costume Design by Kate Poppen, Props Design by Alex Choate, Hair and Wig Design by Jim Belcher, Make-Up Design by Denice Paxton. The Production Stage Manager is Talia Krispel.

SHREK THE MUSICAL opens on Friday, October 19, 2018 and runs through Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the 1,800-seat Kavli Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks.

A signed performance for the deaf and hard-of-hearing will take place on Saturday, October 20at 2:00pm, followed by a post-show discussion with cast, staff and audience.
