Deadline reports that Tony winner Laura Benanti has joined the cast of Billy Crystal's 'Here Today,' also starring Tiffany Haddish, actress/playwright Anna Deavere Smith, and Nyambi Nyambi. 'Gossip Girl' actor Penn Badgley also joined the cast today.

The Stolen Shakespeare Guild presents West Side Story, Book by Arthur Laurents, Music by Leonard Bernstein, Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, based on a Conception of Jerome Robbins, based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. 

Bay Area Musicals has announced the full cast and creative team for the first production of the Company's 2019-2020 season, the timeless 6-Time Tony Award-winning masterpiece GYPSY. Inspired by the 1957 memoirs of legendary burlesque artist Gypsy Rose Lee, GYPSY features music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Arthur Laurents. Bay Area Musicals' production of GYPSY runs from November 9 a?" December 8, 2019 and will perform at San Francisco's Alcazar Theatre (650 Geary St, San Francisco, CA 94102). The press opening will take place on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. Regular tickets range from $40 - $85 and can be purchased online at www.bamsf.org/gypsy. Opening Night Fundraiser Tickets (available only for the Saturday, November 9 performance at 8:00 p.m.) range from $50 - $100 and includes dessert and a champagne toast with the cast (and can also be purchased online at www.bamsf.org/gypsy).

As BroadwayWorld sadly reported yesterday, stage star Phyllis Newman passed away yesterday, September 15, at the age of 86. Newman got her start in show business at 4 years old imitating Carmen Miranda in theatres and clubs. Her portrayal of Martha Vail in the Jule Styne/Comden and Green musical Subways Are For Sleeping - costumed only in a bath towel - earned her a Tony Award. Her other Broadway credits include Bells Are Ringing, The Apple Tree, On the Town, The Prisoner of Second Avenue, Awake and Sing, Wish You Were Here, First Impressions, and her one-woman musical The Madwoman of Central Park West, which she co-authored with Arthur Laurents. She garnered a Tony Award nomination for her highly-acclaimed performance in Neil Simon's Broadway Bound.

The New Brunswick Performing Arts Center (NBPAC) marked the opening of the world-class performing arts center in an event on Wednesday evening. The highly anticipated opening of the $172 million, state-of-the-art performing arts center officially raised its curtain in a star-studded evening with members of New Jersey's cultural arts, academic and governmental community. The new performing arts center will transform New Brunswick's downtown cultural arts district, setting a new standard for performing arts excellence throughout the Northeast.

George Street Playhouse has a new home at the brand new NBPAC (New Brunswick Performing Arts Center) which also serves as the resident home for American Repertory Ballet, Crossroads Theatre Company and the Mason Gross School of the Arts. The new cultural venue is set to open this evening (Wednesday) with an invitational gala at 6 pm at the Elizabeth Ross Johnson Theater, the larger of the two state-of-the-art theatres at NBPAC.
