Review: SON OF A BITCH, Southwark Playhouse

Marnie never chose to be a mum. She loves her 4-year-old and would die for him, but he’s not what she expected him to be. When she’s filmed calling him a see-you-next-Tuesday on a plane back from Dubai, the video immediately goes viral. With her lowest moment immortalised for everybody in the world to see and judge, Marnie explores the ambivalence of motherhood. Written and performed by Anna Morris, Son of a Bitch exposes the casualties of virality, unpicking societal expectations to ask an open question: why do we have children?

Photo Flash: AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE at Centenary Stage Company

Critics and audiences are raving about Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy of the People at Centenary Stage Company, which continues its run now through March 3 in the Sitnik Theatre of the Lackland Performing Arts Center.  "The complicated plot is expertly brought to life by a superb cast... the translation by John Alan Wyatt, the rhetoric is eloquent and fast-paced." (Jane Primerano, NJ Arts Maven) Adapted by John Alan Wyatt and directed by Anne Occhiogrosso, the production stars Randall Duk Kim as Doctor Thomas Stockmann. The full-scale production marks the culmination of the 2018 Gates Ferry Lecture Series: "What is Truth?"

Photo Flash: First Look at Cent. Stage Co.'s DRACULA

Audiences and critics alike are raving over Bram Stoker's Dracula, written and directed by Charles Morey and running now through October 28 in the Lackland Performing Arts Center. Before Twilight and True Blood, only one vampire commanded "the children of the night." In this blood-thirsty tale of unholy terror, Count Dracula slips into Victorian London with a cargo of his native Transylvanian soil - so he can rest between victims.

BWW Review: Mad Theatre of Tampa Presents a Blissful IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU at the Shimberg

IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU, the joyous wedding day musical presented by Mad Theatre of Tampa, doesn't have a bad thought in its head. At times we wonder if it has any thought in its head, but rest assured, any thoughts it does have are good. The show contains some of the most mindless fun I've had at any musical of late; it's a guaranteed good time. Imagine the tickle of champagne bubbles in your nose, and that's the feeling you get while watching it. Giddy, goofy elation.

BWW Review: mad Theatre of Tampa's FUN MUSICAL IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU COMES TO SHIMBERG at Straz Center For The Performing Arts

When you talk about a musical and its ensemble on the 35-minute drive home, it's one of two things - good or bad. In the case of mad Theatre's It Shoulda Been You, expertly directed by Tony P. Gilkinson, good doesn't do justice to the talent that graced the stage and in the audience on Wednesday night. If final dress rehearsal is any indication of how fun a performance you'll see, complimented by a live band under the musical direction of Tim Flores, I guarantee that you are in for a treat.

BWW Review: LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL is an Outstanding Production at New Tampa Players

Ohmigod, you guys- the earworm that stays with you long after curtain call, that you find yourself looking for on Spotify on the drive home, but turn it off because it doesn't hold a candle to this version - is also my reaction to New Tampa Players' production of the musical Legal Blonde The Musical. This show is brilliant and Chelsie Camaro Smith proves she has star power!
