The network also debuts a new short form video campaign featuring three-time Grammy Award and Academy Award winning artist, actor and social justice activist Common, which runs throughout the month of February. In the videos, Common discusses a variety of topics related to Black history and issues affecting the African American community: racism and how we can become a better nation; activism, the power of using 'our voice' and movements like Black Lives Matter; self-awareness, his heroes and what representing the dream means today, 55 years after Martin Luther King Jr.'s iconic 'I Have a Dream' speech. On Sunday, June 18th, songwriter Britt Bonney will present an evening of her music at the Laurie Beechman Theatre, performed by several Broadway veterans. Audiences will hear a special preview of Britt's newest show Montgomery, featuring Janelle McDermoth as civil rights leader Jo Ann Robinson and Brynn Williams as 15-year-old Claudette Colvin. The concert, entitled "Make a Move: The Music of Britt Bonney," will also include songs written in collaboration with Nadav Wiesel, Anna Marquardt, and David Ballard. (more...)

Last night (May 19), The Alliance for Women in Media, presented the 40th Anniversary of The Gracies Awards to a packed house at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA. Tracee Ellis Ross hosted the gala, which also celebrated the organization's 40 years of achievements. In honor of that milestone, The Gracies Commemorative Awards were handed out on stage to honorees in recognition of their stellar accomplishments over the years. Guests were greeted by the musical talents of DJ Amy Pham. During the Commemorative Awards ceremony, music icon Linda Perry performed a striped down version of 'What's Up,' and a moving rendition of Christina Aguilera's 'Beautiful.' Scroll down for photos! FIRST DATE, Broadway's new musical comedy about the most dangerous human endeavor in existence - the dreaded blind date - is now extended through Sunday, May 17 at the Royal George Cabaret, 1641 North Halsted, Chicago, marking a four month hit run. FIRST DATE features a book by Austin Winsberg (Gossip Girl) and Music and Lyrics by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner (Secondhand Lions, Twice Charmed). The musical comedy is produced by Jeanne McInerney and First Date, LLC, and directed by J.R. Rose, with musical direction by Elizabeth Doran and choreography by Becky DeDecker. At a rapid-fire 90 minutes, FIRST DATE is a lighthearted, funny and romantic musical perfect for a real first date, a girls' night out or just a fun and entertaining experience at the theater. On select Thursday evenings at 7 p.m., FIRST DATE presents 'Love IQ,' featuring cast member John Keating and a Chicago celebrity. These interactive events test the audience's romantic intelligence as well as offer advice on hot topics such as online dating.
