Since Giselle opened in Paris in 1841, its poignant themes of betrayal and mercy have been captivating audiences worldwide. With music by Adolphe Adam and choreography based on Petipa’s late-19th-century revivals, Giselle has become the epitome of Romantic-era ballet.

Early October will see the premiere of Javier Torres's revision of Giselle, which moves the events of the ballet from its traditional setting in a medieval German village to 1950s Italy.

Current geopolitics mean the Royal Ballet and Opera no longer welcomes the big Russian companies - Bolshoi and Mariinsky - for summer seasons when the resident company take their annual break. This of course leaves room for others…so welcome the National Ballet of Japan (for the first time), with their director's version of the 19th century key work, Giselle.

This spring, Texas Ballet Theater (TBT) will present Artistic Director Tim O'Keefe's reimagined Giselle, a tragic ghost story filled with love, betrayal and redemption. It will be O'Keefe's first full-length ballet. Performances will be held in Fort Worth at Bass Performance Hall May 2-4 and in Dallas at Winspear Opera House May 16-18.
