Terence Guillermo is an interdisciplinary composer, performing artist, and educator whose work integrates theater, music, pedagogy, and development communication.
He has worked extensively as an Information, Education, and Communications (IEC) Specialist and consultant for development programs supported by the European Union, KfW (Federal Republic of Germany), the Asian Development Bank, the International Labour Organization, the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction, the Government of Spain, and Philippine government agencies.
A prizewinning composer, Terence received the Grand Prize at the National Liga Hymn Songwriting Contest. His compositions span musical theater, film themes, festival anthems, civic hymns, and advocacy-driven works, including Babae Magbunyi Ka (Women’s Health Arts Festival), the Maubanog Festival theme, Pilipino, Susi Ka sa Pagbabago (Philippine Information Agency), Psalms for the Jesuit Music Ministry TV Mass, the Mortabond jingle, and original scores for children’s and community-based theater productions.
Terence began his professional performing career at the Manila Metropolitan Theater in Jesus Christ Superstar (1991) and studied Theater Arts at the University of the Philippines. His performance work spans musical theater, opera, and straight drama. He received the BroadwayWorld Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his role as Lazaro in Lorenzo and an Aliw Awards nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for Beauty and the Beast. He is also a voice actor and dubbed the singing voice of Moses and Oh in the Filipino-translated The Prince of Egypt and Home - the Adventures of Tip and Oh.
As a classical and choral singer, Terence is an Aliw Awards multi-nominee for Best Classical Performer and Best Cross-over Performer. He has portrayed tenor roles in La Viuda Alegre, L’elisir d’amore, San Andres B, and Noli Me Tangere, and was part of the Philippine delegation that won a Gold Medal at the inaugural Asian Choir Olympics in Indonesia and has also performed in the Daegu International Choir Festival in South Korea. He holds a Distinction (the highest mark) in Singing from the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music and has performed with the Philippine Madrigal Singers, Ateneo Chamber Singers, and the UP Symphonic Orchestra Chorus.
Terence’s educational and interdisciplinary work spans Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. He designs curriculum-based modules and workshops exploring performance, sound, and meaning, and conceptualized Sound Scoring Through the Human Voice, presented alongside Van Gogh Alive! at the ArtScience Museum in Singapore. He currently teaches music at Manila Waldorf School, theater at Meridian International (MINT) College, and maintains an online performance studio focusing on voice, piano, and speech and drama.
