Walker's ritual performance flows between incantation, love lecture, scene, and song as it considers the labor of performance itself and honors the legacy of Whitney Houston and so many other Black women beloved, and consumed, for their art.

The Audio Publishers Association has announced finalists for the 2023 Audie Awards®, the premier awards program recognizing distinction in audiobooks and spoken-word entertainment. Gingold Theatrical Group commences the 15th Season of Project Shaw, a special series of evenings of plays that embrace human rights and free speech. La Jolla Playhouse announces the cast and creative team for its world-premiere production of The Coast Starlight, by Keith Bunin (Playhouse's Without Walls production of Sam Bendrix at the Bon Soir), directed by Tyne Rafaeli (Off-Broadway's Usual Girls). In a co-production with Baltimore Center Stage, PTC introduces local audiences to the talents of rising star Christina Anderson and her stunning new play How To Catch Creation, Philadelphia Theatre Company's pick from the 2017 Kilroys List. The "List" was created to give theatre producers a choice of underproduced works by women, with a recent focus on trans, and non-binary writers.  Producing Artistic Director Paige Price has tapped Nataki Garrett, former Associate Artistic Director of Denver Center for the Performing Arts Theater Company (DCPA), to direct this production. How To Catch Creation features a cast of local talent and actors with an impressive range of Netflix, television, and regional theatre credits.  The play runs March 22-April 14, with Opening Night on Wednesday, March 27 at 7 p.m. Single tickets and subscriptions are on sale now and available at the box office, online at philatheatreco.org or by phone at 215-985-0420. The coffeehouse meets the cabaret in "Poetry/Cabaret: CHILLY" at The Green Room 42. Come in from the cold, but prepare to be chilled by poems, songs, and stories about frosty receptions, tingles along the spine, and cool, smooth characters. Curated and hosted by Thomas March, author of the newly-released collection Aftermath, Poetry/Cabaret brings together poets and performers in an evening of wild variations on a theme. Joining us onstage to celebrate all things 'CHILLY' will be-poets Ryan Foster Casey, Cat Fitzpatrick, & Hafizah Geter; singers Lauren Elder, Daniel Nolen, & Stephanie Weeks; and comedians Alex English, Sophie Santos & Jes Tom-& with Scottie Hawley returning on piano.

The true selling point of this production is not so much a reimmersion in Orwell's masterpiece as a reminder, if we needed reminding, of the collective nausea that overtakes us in one of those periodic moments when totalitarian assaults on truth, justice and human dignity are winning.
