What did our critic think of BUDDY, THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY at BDT Stage?

Oh, how I missed raunchy theatre. It's been years since I paid my old pals at Avenue Q a visit. And the jokes still feel as fresh as...well, the salad I had right before I watched puppet sex at a dinner theater.

During a recent “family meeting” of BDT Stage  employees over Zoom, Artistic Producer Michael J. Duran raised a glass and exuberantly  declared the theatre would reopen April 2, 2021, “Intermission is over! It is time for everyone  to please return to your seats.”

As BDT's performances move back inside for the winter, we are proud to announce It Takes Two: The Duets Of BDT, an incredible evening of songs and stories starring Tracy Warren, Scott Beyette, Lily Buonocore, Wayne Kennedy, Joanie Brosseau-Rubald, and Scott Severtson, accompanied by Neal Dunfee on piano. The troupe will sing your favorite duets from previous BDT shows, as well as other Broadway classics and a few of their personal favorites.

As a child of the 90s, the classic Disney movies have a special place in my heart. The company's track record of transforming these tales into full-length musical productions has always been met with anticipation of how the magic of the movies will blossom on stage. The Little Mermaid, the current production at BDT Stage, is no exception to the glitz.

Hot. Shredded. Cheese. You know what I'm talking about. That gooey kind that stretches from the plate to your mouth, and you just can't get enough. That's how BDT Stage's current '80s jukebox musical Rock of Ages feels.

Sherrie's just a small-town girl living in a lonely world. She took a late night bus to Los Angeles with visions of stardom in her eyes. Rock of Ages is a mix-tape compilation musical of some of the most memorable songs of the 1980s, including Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," "We Built This City" by Starship, and Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is," set to a story about pursuing dreams. Rock of Ages plays BDT Stage September 1 - November 11, with discounted preview performances August 25 - 31, 2017.

It takes a special kind of movie to be converted into a stage musical. Luckily for Footloose, with a dance-centric plot serenaded by some rad '80s tunes, it's got something to work with.

The Addams Family has been playing BDT Stage in Boulder since November, but even though death is just around the corner for this show's run, it still manages to be everything but neat, sweet and petite. (Which is exactly what an homage to the classic family deserves.)

'But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks' This line from Romeo & Juliet is one of the most famous moments in theatrical history. Romeo & Juliet is arguably the most beloved and notable love story in the world. Star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, continue to evolve, with one of their most notable contemporaries as West Side Story's Tony and Maria.

Relive an era when doo-wop was king, big hairdos were in, cars had enormous fins, and the harmonizing bands of the 50s were all the rage. Forever Plaid, the hallmark jukebox musical comedy by Stuart Ross, centers on a quartet whose dream of recording an album ended in a bus collision while on their way to their biggest gig. Now they've been miraculously revived for the show that never was - right in the middle of Boulder! Forever Plaid plays BDT Stage March 6 - May 10, 2015.

This is' family entertainment' in the truest sense of the word and this fantastic production is appropriate and enjoyable for all ages.

The Colorado Theatre Guild's 9th Annual Henry Awards will take place Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd in Arvada, Colorado. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails and a silent auction. The awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m., followed by an after-party. It was nominated for 14 Tony Awards, winning three, including Best New Musical for 2005. During its initial run, it was seen by more than two million people and now you can see it right in your own backyard as Boulder's Dinner Theatre sets forth on the quest for the Holy Grail this winter - playing tonight, November 16, 2013 through March 1, 2014.

The Arvada Center will open the award winning musical, Curtains directed by Gavin Mayer tonight, July 9. Curtains is written by Rupert Holmes, and is based on the original book by Peter Stone, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb (Chicago and Cabaret).

Cherry Creek Theatre, has a gem on their hands with this obscure musical from the 80's.
