World Premiere of DIDO THE QUEEN to Open in June at The Flamboyan Theater

Longtime artistic collaborators, Willa Bassen (Librettist and Dramaturg) and Nick Robertson (Director and Orchestrator) present the world premiere of Dido the Queen - A Folk Opera. This bluegrass inspired, puppet infused adaptation of Purcell's Dido & Aeneas has been specifically created for high school audiences by Bassen and Robertson from June 17–19 with five performances at the Flamboyan Theater at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural Center (107 Suffolk St). I Need Some Space: The Lyrics of Robby Sandler, returning to the Laurie Beechman Theatre on Monday, May 19th at 7 pm, after a sold out debut this past July, features the talents of Mariand Torres (The Great Comet, Wicked), Ken Clark (The Great Comet, February House), Andrew Keltz (The Golden Land), Lizzie Hagstedt (Southern Comfort, Sweeney Todd), Shoshanna Richman (I Heart NY, Fiddler), and Ariana Shore (The Performers). The hour long evening of music by the BMI lyricist is produced by Rudy Scala and features a number of composer collaborators including Daniel Green, Lizzie Hagstedt, Jonathan Monro, and Andy Roninson. The Meeting* is a monthly comedy/variety show for homosexuals and their friends. A 'gay' romp through politics, sexual and otherwise, social news, music, skits, and other important life-changing information. Produced by Adam J. Rosen & Rudy Scala, The Meeting* returns to The Duplex Cabaret Theatre on February 8th at 9:30 pm with host Justin Sayre. Past "agenda items" have included the romantic saga of gay penguins at the Central Park Zoo, a nativity play celebrating the birth of Quentin Crisp, a guide to the so-called "gay panic" defense, and musical numbers with cabaret star Molly Pope. The February show will pay tribute to the life of Warhol Superstar Jackie Curtis.
